Beautiful, grand old pub that has been tastefully and stylishly refurbished at what looks like considerable expense. The food however was disappointing. We went for Sunday lunch and although we were the very first to be seated and receive our orders, the meat (one beef, one lamb) was somewhat scrappy and consisted of at least some leftovers rather then the first few slices of a fresh roast. Very little gravy and only as we were finishing off did we notice other diners had been given little copper pots of gravy (I don't think they ordered this but rather probably they just forgot to give us any). Roast potatoes were not very well done and the other veg was rather amateurishly chopped up (boiled or steamed and very bland). Yorkshire puddings were quite nice though. Also loud pop music coming from the kitchen for about the first half hour which clashed with the music playing in the dining room. All the ingredients were there, so to speak, for a very good meal in a lovely setting (service was good and a lot of staff) but the result on the plate was very average. A short, simple and uncomplicated menu so really no excuse for not getting every element of the roast right. A shame as a great first impression and we really wanted to love the place but decided we wouldn't stay for pudding nor return any time soon.

Great Sunday Roast in an amazingly beautifully restored building. Very decadent.

Lovely building, not very busy so lacking a bit in atmosphere. Attentive and excellent waiting staff. Good first course (tagliolini with seafood), but could do with a bit more seafood in it (qty not necessarily variety). Desserts for both of us a disaster but was swiftly dealt with by the waiter. Main courses for other diners looked good so I can only assume the chefs are not really pudding fans.

Excellent English Rose wine (chapel down) .

A little dissapointed, booked to sit in the restaurant but was seated in the bar. The food was a mixed offering, not as good as i had hoped, although the meat was cooked superbley! The vegetables were a bit bornig and nothing green. Service was good and both staff were polite and friendly. Wine was OK. I think perhaps this place is better for dinner than sunday lunch. The interior was good although i really would have prefered to sit in the dining room.
Inwould like to try this place again as i think there were some good elements, and hopefully next time will be better.

Venue was lovely. However Service was slow and a few things we asked for the waiter didn't seem to understand and we were just left.

We had afternoon tea and everything was exceptional. The food was delicious, the veggie sandwiches were imaginative and the scones and cakes were gorgeous. In particular the pastry was especially delicious. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Service was great throughout our visit. The venue is very special and very decadent. There's a disabled toilet on the ground floor.
