First time we have been here. Superb food, ambience and overall a very lovely evening. There was a lounge singer half way through the evening which made for a lovely ambience. The service was slow and some of the staff were not as attentive as they should have been. But did not bother us too much.

The restaurant was lovely and the food was delicious, we would recommend the steak and macaroni cheese.

The service was attentive but the were a long wait of about 45 minutes between our starter and our main course, several waiters told us it is coming shortly. Also the service was lovely but it doesn't seems to have allocated waiter per area as we had four different waiter/manager approaching us throughout the meal and couple of them asked for desert course/bill.

Friendly welcome, nice to be offered a choice of tables. Excellent service to begin with, but this tapered off slightly when ordering a desert and paying the bill. (a common feature in a lot of restaurants, I find). Excellent quality food, rather over generous portions on the Sunday roasts. (Food waste is being recognised as more of an issue now.) For a venue that describes itself as a British restaurant, the serving of tea was a disappointment. Why the move to a cup of off the boil water with a tea bag on the side. The tea bag wrapper even says use boiling water. Have we been getting it wrong with tea pots for all these years that this should be considered an improvement? Pour the boiling water on the tea, please. Music levels sometimes a little intrusive. Small niggles in a mainly enjoyable visit.

Lovely atmosphere and decoration. Food and wine were good value too. A nice place to go for lunch with friends.

This is the second time i have visited the restaurant. My first experience of coming here was over 3 years ago!
I noticed that staff and management had changed and also there was a slight change in dress code for staff! (Previously waiters and waitresses were wearing traditional coppers ties to add an edge to the fact this place used to be a police station!) Which I thought was a nice touch!
My experience then was amazing and the manager was lovely not in your face but very helpful and staff were pleasent! I could not fault anything!
This time staff were pleasent and the manager was friendly but there were far to many waiters and waitresses that kept coming over to our table to take things off etc and there wasn't just one assigned waitress/waiter,if there was it remained to be seen!
It was made aware to us that tables had been mixed up after we had settled and I feel that it wasn't appropriate! Staff more than once were dropping knives and forks more than once which was very interruptive! However it was a nice touch that the staff came out singing happy birthday to me when we had dessert!
When we had finally got our bill, we were all shocked to see that we had been given a service charge to our table for just over 14 pound we were gobsmaked considering it worked out 2.97 person i didnt feel that this was necessary and if you eat in a restaurant, your paying for your food to eat in the restaurant, why should you have to pay for service when staff were just doing their job that they get paid for!?
Overall my experience this time wasn't as pleasent as my last which made me want to return and so therefore I am reluctant to want to come back if i am honest! The food was ok but not great and didnt warrant the price tag! I was disappointed!

The service was exceptionally good on this visit. Our main waitress was really very warm and friendly, and frequently made sure we were all happy. The food order was taken with enough time to browse the selections and we didn't have to wait long at all. The food was very well presented, and the right temperature too. The food was superb and the ambiance was very nice - the music was the right sound level (not too loud) and relaxing for a Sunday lunch sitting. The tableware, cutlery and crockery were clean and well maintained. This was also good value for money - we had a set menu (Sunday lunch 2 and 3 course) would highly recommend this restaurant.
