The restaurant meal was excellent. On a par with Michelin star restaurants I have eaten in.

after a long 2 1/2hour drive it was a welcoming sight on arrival. The restaurant has a lovely feel about it, the staff professional and the food was very delicious. We had the 6 course taster menu and would recommend it. Overall a pleasant experience.

Booked for lunch with a friend and we had a wonderful time.
The setting is superb and the restaurant and staff were lovely.
We had the lunch time set menu which was really reasonably priced, great food and a good choice. It was fabulous and we will definitely be coming back.
Happy, friendly staff that make you very welcome, we chose a brilliant weekend to visit weather wise so we were able to enjoy drinks outside beforehand.
Nothing is too much trouble for the team of staff and l shall be booking again in the near future, perhaps staying in the hotel so that we can have a few drinks next time.
Highly recommended and super value for money with exceptional food.
The lunch menu changes every two weeks.

Staff were courtious, professiona, attentive and efficient. Restaurant was comfortable, elegant and of a high standard. Food was elegantly and attractively presented and was outstanding to taste. Lunch menu was nicely balanced offering a good range. Portion size was excellent - a real winner personally. No one needs to feel stuffed after a meal. Starter - duck liver parfait and pudding - peanut butter/nut/chocolate creamy combination were the highlights. Hake was a little over salted but thats a personal opinion.

After looking forward to lovely evening sampling a new restaurant we were left feeling very disappointed. On arrival we were asked if we would like to have a drink first or straight to our table. We preferred a drink so we could relax and consider the menu. The drinks took an age to arrive. We were left two menus, one a la carte and one taster. There were six of us! A few minutes later the waitress came to take our order. We were, of course, not ready as only one of us had seen the menu. We asked for more copies to be told that they were all in use downstairs. We were asked (not really an option) to come to our table to order, we would have preferred to order in the lounge. The food that arrived was mediocre, ridiculously small in portion. I appreciate it was a taster menu, we always take this option as we believe that it best displays the talents of a chef. But a teaspoon of crab, one ravioli etc etc. The wine ordered was delivered incorrectly. At no point did a 'restaurant manager' approach our table. We left feeling disappointed and wished that we had visited the Masons Arms instead.

The restaurant staff were very welcoming and we really enjoyed the elevated lounge area where we had our drinks before lunch.
The starters were excellent but unfortunately went downhill thereafter. I couldn't get my knife through the vegetables as they were so tough. The desserts were really disappointing. The white ravioli was not cooked and when I gave this feedback when asked at point of paying I was told not ravioli but their interpretation although another party was complaining to their waiter at this point that their's was not cooked!! Michael Caines needs to check them out as his name is cited. Will do his reputation no good at all.

Service excellent. The upstairs area looks a little bleak almost like a 6th form common room with a couple or three sofas, two padded armchairs of doubtful comfort and a rather uncoordinated arrangement of tables and chairs and it is not warm. The dining area is searching for an identity, BHS type lampshades mixed with some comfortable looking (we did not get to test them) window seats and again rather the look of a school/college dining room with nice glassware.

The menu was the special offer menu and too limited. Having seen everyone raving on Trip Advisor about the scallops I was very disappointed that there was no scallop dish nor sea bream. The food was delicious but very small portions, the walnuts with the pate were divine. As a great fan of all things Michael Caines I was expecting a little more from this venue and hope that it is still in its embryonic stage. I shall revisit in a few months but until then would not recommend it to a friend. My gin and tonic was fabulous, very Chelsea Flower Show and very beautiful. My partner was quite disappointed with his mackerel starter which was diminutive and although his hake was very well cooked it looked lonely with almost no accompaniment nor embellishment.
