Me and my husband came for afternoon as part of an anniversary treat, it was very nice and we enjoyed the afternoon tea, we were the first one's there so we were a little surprised to be seated right by the door to the kitchen however we asked to move and the staff kindly said yes, I had also rung during the week to find out what you get in the afternoon tea, sandwich fillings etc, but if I hadn't it would have been nice to see a menu online before hand but when you go online all there is is afternoon tea and the prices, the tea itself was very nice but very expensive and over priced!

Very poor service, when we asked what the fish of the day was the waitress went to find out but returned a couple of minutes later to ask us what we would like to order having completely forgotten about the fish question. I then ordered a main course salad and was told there was no advocado available what would l like in my salad instead?
My guest then ordered the fish of the day and the order arrived wrong, leaving me to wait for her main course to be cooked. We also ordered a bowl of new potatoes, they never arrived.
Overall a very poor and embarrassing lunch to treat me guest to.
The restaurant also looks very tired and worn, several of the seat pads are hanging through the bottom, all seats are torn and tatty. The carpet was full of food and needed cleaning.

    Service was very unacceptable
The main course took far to long and even though we were first to sit down we were served after later sittings.
My wife's steak was 80% gristle and no one came to check if the meals were ok!
We were not asked if we wanted sauces and dirty plates were left on the table for far too long!

Waiters had very little knowledge of the menu, we had to wait ages for him to return so we could ask what the soup of the day was.
Kept taking the wine list away, before we had even chosen, even though it was a poor selection.
I requested fish and chips with no muchy peas, hidden under the fish mushy peas, fish was very greasy, chips very brittle or only half cooked.
Considering we live in the heart of farming land, we had to pay £3.50 for a small dish of new potatoes and a small dish of vegetables
New potates £2.50 per kilo from the supermarket)
The odd time a waiter did come to our table we had to ask him to repeat himself as we could not hear he just mumbled - the music playing was far to loud

ALSO IT WOULD BE A VERY COULD IDEA TO REQUEST MOBILE PHONES ARE TUNRNED OFF IN THE RESTAURANT.
A table of 6/8 girls all taking pictures of each other and their food is We then looked arounf at it appeared we where the only table with no phone!

Even some coffee shops request mobile phones are turned off.

One last thing do you have to have the music played so loud? And the chairs could do with replacing seating worn.

We had thought we may have a dinner party - no way!!!!!

    Will we come back NO

The food was lovely. My portion of mussels was generous and came with a finger bowl. Service was prompt and friendly. The damson Bakewell tart had crisp pastry and a flavoursome filling.
The only downside was I thought the dining room could have been warmer.

Fantastic food that looked great, beautifully cooked and delicious, with quality ingredients. The service was pleasant and attentive without being over bearing. All in all a good evening in a beautiful building and good value for the quality of the food. We'll definitely be back.

Went for breakfast with friends as on a spa day. No record of booking but were very happy to take us to a table. Hardly any juice left and tool 15 minutes til refilled. Sat at a table set for 2 and there were 3 of us, kept asking for cup for tea and plate etc. Toast and tea delivered still no cup or plate for one of my friends to use. No butter sugar asked lots and got as hot food delivered. Only brought white toast as not asked so asked for granary. Everything took 10-20 mins to be brought out. Only one server so nothing cleared from tables or ours. Juice ran out and we saw others complaining. This is £15 each for breakfast and service and timing of getting things so you could eat hot toast was appalling. Really bad service. No apologies. Food delicious as always but won't be coming for breakfast again. The chairs are all torn and worn really need new ones

Booking online was very easy and really that's where the good experience ended. We were on a spa afternoon and decided to book into the restaurant to eat first. When we told the guy on the bar our names and booking time he just said "hang on" before i could finish talking. Ignored us and shoved the menu to another waiter who took us to our table.

Food came minus my side of vegetables, we chased it up and I had finished my meal before they arrived. Our waiter (unfortunately we didn't get his name but he was from Lithuania) was the only saving grace to the restaurant. He was friendly ,polite, engaged in conversation and apologized fully for the forgotten side. The rest of the staff gave the impression that they would rather have been anywhere but there. Their uniforms were dirty and very messy, they made no effort at all with conversation and their customer service was poor.

we had afternoon tea outside as it was a sunny day. One of the waiters was sat where the guests were eating his lunch and reading a paper. I worked in hospitality for a long time and we were never allowed to sit where the guests relaxed. In this area we counted 5 tables which needed clearing. We were there for 45 minutes and no one cleared one table. The waiter who was eating his lunch ignored all the tables, did not bother to tell another member of staff that they needed clearing and once he had finished his break he simply walked back inside leaving it all behind.

for what is supposed to be a high end spa establishment we were more than disappointed. This also goes for the spa treatment we received as well.

I would most certainly NOT recommend this place to eat, drink, stay or have a spa experience.

This visit did not turn out to be the usual good dining experience! We are members and go regularly to this restaurant and we know ( hope!) that this was just a blip. There were insufficient staff on duty. We were taken to our seats but not offered drinks and we waited 30 minutes before drinking the dregs of an abandoned water jug on the next table! When it came, the food was of the usual high quality and the one waitress was keeping her cool. As we had booked our table, we would expect to be served before people who just arrived and were expecting an immediate drink.
