This is a surprising gem ... it has the stereotypical image from the outside, and is pretty basic inside (don't expect a plush dining experience). However, it was packed, and notably very popular with Chinese visitors (always a good sign!). The food choice was excellent, and the quality of the food didn't disappoint.
The only thing letting it down was the quality of service. Nobody attempted to help with the menu, and no one checked that we were happy with what came. Likewise, getting attention afterwards to get the bill what's hard work!
However, I would still go again just for the quality of the food and reasonable prices.
FYI, it's very, very close to the Hippodrome theatre which is a bonus for theatre goers. Enjoy.

I have eaten at Chung Ying's before and always had a good dining experience, but this was my first time eating there at lunchtime so wasn't sure what to expect. Once inside I was surprised to see the restaurant so busy, but this didn't impact a t all on the attentive service. Obviously, it is in any restaurant's interests to get you seated, fed and out again ready for more diners, but this didn't feel at all hurried. The meals were generous well presented and delicious. The Duck in plum sauce succulent and meaty, the chicken in lemon and honey lightly sweet with a tangy bite. By the time we came to leave there were people seated around the bar area waiting for tables and this was 4.45pm - I imagine there would be a lot of restaurants keen to have such a vibrant trade.

I booked the table and, having seen how busy it was in the whole time we were there, I think that it would be difficult to get a table (on popular days) without a booking.

I have always had good dining at Chung Ying's, but generally only visit for special occasions really. The main reason being that the cost, whilst not exorbitant, is not that keenly priced. Our meal consisted a starter for two, two main courses with one rice portion and one water chestnuts/beansprouts portion to share and included two small glasses of wine and two bottles of Tiger beer, and was exactly £60.00. As I say, not overly pricy, but equally not everyday dining prices.

They had no record of our booking but luckily I'd printed off the booking reference. They bent over backwards to help us and were very kind. The food was amazing. We had a mixture of food so we could share but mine and my 13 year old sons favourite was sizzling chicken and beef in black bean sauce. Would definitely recommend dining here and we would certainly go again

Booked for a meal after the theater arrived a little late due to shows "en cours"
Greeted & seated on arrival, advised all courses would arrive together. Gather the kitchen was closing surprised as have been many times before and not aware of "early closing".
Food ordered arrived ok and was excellent. Service attentive although did feel a little rushed.
We were still the last couple to leave the restaurant.

We visited here on Sarurday night. Although it was extremely busy we were taken to our table within minutes. We chose the set meal for four. The food started arriving within minutes. Each of the dishes were delicious although there was a prawn dish which we all found a bit too hot on the chilli's. The duck was so tender and tasty. It was a good meal all round and would definitely recommend it.
