Housed in an 18th-century former brewer’s building, Chop Bloc Chelmsford serve up steak, burgers and cocktails over 3 floors. Exposed brick walls and leather seating make for a contemporary, laidback venue.
Committed to sourcing the finest cuts, all steaks on the Chop Bloc menu are from British Hereford cattle. Served with a choice of sauce or marinated in garlic, olive oil and parsley, extra indulgence is provided by adding lobster, prawns or fried eggs. Served in a brioche bun, succulent burgers at Chop Bloc include the chicken, bacon and avocado burger, and the mighty barbecue burger, comprising a double patty, Cheddar cheese, an onion ring and homemade barbecue sauce. For a lighter option, try the superfood salad, or grilled swordfish with sweet chilli dressing.
Desserts are gloriously indulgent, and include ice cream sundaes, caramel cheesecake and berry Eton mess. As well as the converted warehouse-style dining room, Chop Bloc restaurant is also home to an al fresco terrace and a lively bar serving cocktails, international wines and craft beers.

The chop bloc was disappointing from a promising start. Louise who introduced herself at the front desk was very professional but the rest of the staff left a lot to be desired. There is a meat locker at the front of the premises but we did not receive the full introduction of all of the meats at the table as was billed by others that have visited and indeed we had expected as what is billed as an up market restaurant.
The ambiance was good albeit not very busy for a Sunday lunchtime. So the staff were not rushed in any way but struggled to pay regular attention for drinks food etc...
London prices on the menu but did not deliver the promises, staff were clueless and the food was not worth the effort. Very bland steaks, wings, roasts lunches all really poor quality. Much better food is available at various local gastro pubs in the local countryside. When we want fine dining we will continue to head into Shoreditch and Spitalfields plus the West End for our tried and tested dependable spots that we have enjoyed for years.

After hearing mixed reviews i wasnt sure what to expect. But it was amazing. The restaurant itself is done up perfectly. The service was really proffessional and quick. The food is probably the best food i have eaten in essex. I then went to the bloc bar upstairs and the cocktails were so yummy and the staff and management were so good. Would highly recommend this restaurant, and will 100% be going back!!

only open a week and wow love the lay out love the decor love the concept. Only for the fact that it was explained by our server Gill whom was going off shift very experienced very knowledgeable. Although out order was a bit messed up as our main came before starters, the food itself more than made up for the mistake. Moving to the bar upstairs for cocktails very friendly young man Ollie served us and explained a few cocktails and was interested in our thoughts. Overall a few little points that were mentioned to the owners already seem to be on hand. I would definitely recommend Chop Bloc to my friends and family.

Great conversion of an old building, loved the cocktail bar at the top. Good service, fabulous steaks cooked to each individuals preference. Everyone in our group loved it, will definitely return.

The food was superb - especially the sweet potato chips - the best l have ever had and all 6 of us are in agreement with that. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the spinach was delicious. The quality of the food was outstanding. The only criticism is that when food was served, my colleague and l was sharing the Chateaubriand neither of us received a plate to eat from. We waited over 5 minutes for plates to be given to us and twice had to ask for the peppercorn sauce that had been forgotten. The girl serving the drinks spilt a whole glass of coke over 2 of my work colleagues and it was a bit of a palaver to try and clear this up. Even though there were serving issues the staff were very helpful and apologetic throughout our dining.
