Service, which is normally excellent, was a little slow, especially in the delivery of dessert and waiting to find someone to bring the bill.
Food, as usual, excellt.

Housed in the Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Bar & Grill serves modern British cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The Minerva Lounge and Brasserie offer drinks and light bites for pre and post-performance refreshment.

Start with Brighton blue cheese, fig, radicchio, and chicory salad with hazelnut dressing, or smoked mackerel mousse with horseradish crème fraiche and focaccia thins. Mains on the Minerva menu include slow-cooked shoulder of pork with mustard sauce, and Sussex beetroot tatin with goats’ cheese. Lighter options include a Mediterranean meze sharing platter, quiche of the day and a British cheese board.

Desserts at The Minerva Bar & Grill also feature local produce and include Sussex summer berry mess and steamed vanilla sponge with sticky bourbon sauce. Local beers and an extensive drinks list including English sparkling wine are also available.

Open to theatregoers and the general public alike, The Minerva at Chichester Festival Theatre is a short walk from the city centre and a 7-minute drive from Chichester Train Station.

The food came out very quickly, possibly a bit too rushed as it wasn't a busy time...

We enjoyed our meal very much. There was a small but varied choice on the menu, and catered for vegetarian options. The cheesecake was one of the best we have tasted!

Minerva Grill is usually very good but not so last night. The mozzarella and tomato salad had lots of tomato and stale, wilting watercress. The same items were then served with the bream, the special of the day. It felt as if fresh supplies had not been taken in by the restaurant yesterday. The coffee was lukewarm.
Much a lower standard than our previous occasions there.

Although we were ahead of the 12.30 pm opening and booking time, there was no problem and we were greeted and ushered by a friendly waiter to our table. How nice to have a linen tablecloth and napkins for once. We ordered an excellent NZ Marlborough wine and chose from a limited but interesting menu. My husband had the chicken and I the lamb, which with artichokes and blackberries was an interesting combination of flavours. Both dishes arrived within a reasonable time, piping hot, and both were delicious. The Spotted Dick scored highly with my husband and I was delighted with the delicate flavours of the white chocolate cheesecake. As we were to sit through a matinee performance, the meals were about the right proportion. Our waiter(s) were professional, helpful and friendly. The restaurant was light and airy and it was interesting to be able to watch people come and go outside.

Of course it is convenient for pre theatre and is a pleasant space, however food is only mediocre. A sirloin steak was rather tough. Salmon fishcakes for main course were small, mainly potato, served on a cold plate. A virgin mary came as just tomato juice with sprinkle of pepper. Neither of us enjoyed the meal. Worse than my local pub.

Excellent service, attentive staff and high quality food. Timings were great and therefore a relaxed and most enjoyable experience prior to us taking up our seats in the Festival Theatre.
