The meal was very good as was the service but we thought it was just a bit pricey

Housed in the Chichester Festival Theatre, Minerva Bar & Grill serves modern British cuisine using seasonal, local produce. The Minerva Lounge and Brasserie offer drinks and light bites for pre and post-performance refreshment.

Start with Brighton blue cheese, fig, radicchio, and chicory salad with hazelnut dressing, or smoked mackerel mousse with horseradish crème fraiche and focaccia thins. Mains on the Minerva menu include slow-cooked shoulder of pork with mustard sauce, and Sussex beetroot tatin with goats’ cheese. Lighter options include a Mediterranean meze sharing platter, quiche of the day and a British cheese board.

Desserts at The Minerva Bar & Grill also feature local produce and include Sussex summer berry mess and steamed vanilla sponge with sticky bourbon sauce. Local beers and an extensive drinks list including English sparkling wine are also available.

Open to theatregoers and the general public alike, The Minerva at Chichester Festival Theatre is a short walk from the city centre and a 7-minute drive from Chichester Train Station.

Perfect service, imaginative menu, food very good except that the smoked haddock has been kept warm for too long and had become dry and tough on the outside.

The food was nicely presented and the service was excellent however I have reservations about the menu. There were only choices between a two and three course menu which does not suit all at a pre-theatre venue. It would be muck better to have an a la carte situation where one course, a sharing plate or a light bite was available. If this were the case I don't think there would have been so many empty tables.

Eating at the Brasserie & Minerva Restaurants at Chichester Festival Theatre is always a great experience from the warm welcome and attentive service throughout the meal to the delicious food which is always beautifully presented. Last night, our waiter was fun, informative and even persuasive in which dishes we might like to try. He had worked in the kitchen previously for three years so was really knowledgable.

Interesting, varied and reasonably-priced menu, with well presented bistro-style food, together with very good wine list, including local sparkling wine and gins.
Efficient, friendly service in nice bright surroundings, with easy, quick access to the theatre.

Good menu, excellent service and personable staff: very appropriate for a pre theatre meal.

Lovely restaurant which I visited two years ago. My mother was in the early stages of dementia and it was a busy August Bank Holiday Saturday. The choices on the menu were good, the staff were fantastic and my mother and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was reasonably expensive but worth every penny. This time, with a friend, the choice on the menu was poor and, I considered it to be pretentious. The main course as luke warm, the noodles were hard to some looking burnt and were 'crisp', presumably because the food had been standing around. I couldn't cut the meagre portion of duck because the knife was blunt. I asked a man who appeared to be the restaurant manager for the day for a sharper knife. He said he would get me a steak knife but did it in a languid, disinterested way, by which time the food was just cold and not a pleasant experience to eat.

We had ordered some bread when we ordered our main course and were puzzled as to why our bread knives were taken from us before the bread arrived. The sweet was the highlight of the meal and it was delicious. It couldn't be helped that there were only a few tables occupied and, I think, all by'ladies who lunched', so there wasn't much atmosphere.

My friend and I didn't complain at the time. We had come out to enjoy ourselves for the day and had decided to treat ourselves to lunch at the theatre before seeing the play. We ignored the suggestion of increasing our bill by contribution of a percentage of the cost.

We are coming to another matinee in 6 weeks time but will not be lunching at the Brasserie again.

The service was very swift, almost too quick so that we finished the meal extremely early. We felt rather pushed along. The starters and desserts were good, but the main dish, the duck was a great disappointment. It was only lukewarm and some of the meat was chewy. Perhaps if it had taken a bit longer in the kitchen it might have been ok.
