Chequers Maresfield is a beautifully restored 18th century coaching inn and an idyllic rural retreat. Enjoy succulent British flavours out in the decked garden or a drink at the bar.

Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, the Chequers menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.

The drinks list at the Chequers pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.

Located on the fringes of the Ashdown Forest, Chequers is a charming East Sussex country pub. The A26 Motorway is easily accessed by car, just a 2-minute drive away.

I had soup and when it arrived it was only tepid not hot. We ordered 1 roast beef dinner and one roast pork 2 roast beef arrived so 1 of us had to wait while the other had to eat on their own so there meal was hot, the roast pork meal arrived 10 mins later. The roast potatos were advertised on the menu as being crisp, but when they arrived they were all very mush even more mushy than the mash potato. The gravy tasted as if they had tipped the pot of salt in it. We left our meals and went to pay and no one asked if our meals were ok. I don't think we will be going back.
