It was ok, I wish they wouldnt insist so much in letting me know the wine they recommended was the "cheaper" of the menu (should never assume someone's pocket), but everything else was good, food and environment.

I am used to dining at the Caxton Grill because it's location is convenient to my office and it is suitable for hosting professional meetings and lunches with journalists. I was disappointed on this occasion as the service was slow and the food was not finished to the standard I have come to expect. I often have the same dish and it was served with several missing ingredients. My favourite dish is the Caesar Salad with chicken or prawn. On this occasion, the salad missed both the parmesan and the crispbread. The staff are always friendly, courteous and attentive. On this occasion this seemed utterly stretched and not able to cope with the busy restaurant. It took a very long time before anyone offered us drinks and we were also waiting for some time before being served our starters. This was difficult to address as I was hosting an interview with a journalist. We come to the restaurant frequently but my colleagues have suggested that we try elsewhere as they have also been disappointed with the Caxton recently.

Disappointing. Steak well cooked but not standout. Side order bland. Poor music. Dinning room felt like a typical sole-less hotel restaurant. Service helpful and friendly.

Three people. Their steaks and dessert superb. My dessert superb. Staff a little aloof.
However, the chef MUST learn how to cook lobster. I have cooked and eaten lobsters for forty years. A lobster takes only a few minutes to cook either on a grill or in an oven or pan. If the lobster sticks to the shell it is OVERDONE. I ordered a full lobster and the flesh was so stuck to the shell it was almost impossible to remove. I complained and a second half-lobster came and it really was not much better. Also the claw flesh was stuck to the shell. This is only caused by one thing - OVERCOOKING. I told the head waiter and he said that the chef said the half-lobster I returned was perfect - CRAP - you are telling some who knows. and it won't wash. Read my lips IF LOBSTER FLESH STICKS TO THE SHELL IT IS OVERCOOKED. The waiter said the second half-lobster was specially undercooked. This is nonsense. It was still stuck, but not as bad, to the shell.
Your chef needs to learn how to cook lobster PDQ and also not to argue with a customer who knows what he is talking about. GET REAL.
The evening, apart from the ignorant chef, was brilliant. I will recommend it but NOT for lobster.
