A charming rural pub dating back to 1760, The Cart & Horses Winchester boasts open fires and a tranquil beer garden for al fresco dining. There is monthly live music, and even a traditional skittle alley in the function room.

Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, the Cart & Horses menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.

The drinks list at The Cart & Horses pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.

Attracting people from miles around with its traditional feel and warm ambience, The Cart & Horses is 7 minutes' drive from Winchester Rail Station.

We had a lovely evening at The Cart & Horses, great food, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. My sister in law always meet here, as it is a convenient midway point for us and have never been disappointed. This time we both had the chicken jalfrezi indian banquet, which was absolutely delicious and we would both highly recommend it. It comes with sag aloo, onion bhajis, naan and poppadums. We were not able to eat anything else after this feast!

Booking resulted in a nice comfortable table being reserved for us. Plenty of room both at and between tables. Extremely friendly and efficient waitress service. Menu not extensive but everything we ordered was well cooked and tasty. And all at a reasonable price. We all really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.

Overall everything was really good apart from 1 meal arriving 20minures before the rest for a table of 6.

Three of us went there on a busy Friday night. Two of us had the Indian Banquet, which was as good as its name: a choice of chicken tikka masala or jalfrezi (we had one each) or vegetable masala, plus a vegetable curry, rice, poppadums, naan & onion bahjis - all for just £11.45! The third member had salmon with chilli sauce and vegetables - another generous portion which she enjoyed.
