Trendy, yet with retro charm, the Canteen Royal Festival Hall showcases great British cuisine. Boasting this vintage food in a sleek setting, you can relax and refresh yourself in the well-heeled and iconic South Bank.

Keeping to time-honoured traditions, the Canteen menu offers a range of wholesome, no-nonsense classics. Daily pies and seasonal sausages are on offer, as well as favourites like macaroni cheese or battered fish and chips. Puddings are similarly indulgent and old school, with offerings like apple pie and custard, or gingerbread with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

An ever-bustling bar at Canteen – Royal Festival Hall offers fine wines, inventive Cockney-themed cocktails and locally-brewed ciders and beers. Homemade cakes, hand-roasted coffees and rare teas populate the afternoon tea, indicative of all the fresh ingredients used at the restaurant.

Located by the riverside in the landmark Royal Festival Hall, the Canteen is perfectly placed to further explore central London, and is just a 3-minute walk from Waterloo Train Station.

Quick to seat and friendly waiter. Family friendly. Experience spoilt by -
    1) too much salt on food, including kids food and especially the chips.
    2) no potatoes or much greenery with chicken dish.
    3) dry chicken
    4) wine arrived well after the meal.

Another pleasant visit to Canteen. Enjoyed the Bubble and Squeak. Service good and plenty of waiting and cooking staff in evidence. Only downer was the lack of the main two draft beers that are usually on offer.

Canteen lives up to its name! Very mediocre. Nothing special. At least it was v close to RFHall.

Wonderful. Neat layout. Open booths, yet good for private conversation.

despite booking we were given the worst table in the place. It was a very cold evening and every time the door opened which with the number of smokers in attendance was very frequent we were hit with an arctic blast. Still a hot plate of food would cheer us up but alas the food was delivered very speedily but tepid.

Food was ok but service awful and not the first time at this branch. Staff were standing around chatting to each other and 3 times we had to ask them to order for our meal then more drinks...

We had a sweet waiter but his English wasn't great and he was totally confused with the ordering system and came back to the table 4 times to see if he had taken down the right order. Every time there was more than one mistake. He didn't put our drinks order through and in the end we had to ask the manager to oversee our order as it was getting beyond a joke. The waiter was new (it was his 3rd night) so it was early days and we understood the teething problems but I think much more training is required by the management of new waiting staff before they are put on the restaurant floor to serve customers. Once we eventually got our food and drinks they were lovely and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is great. I would go back.
