Trendy, yet with retro charm, the Canteen Royal Festival Hall showcases great British cuisine. Boasting this vintage food in a sleek setting, you can relax and refresh yourself in the well-heeled and iconic South Bank.

Keeping to time-honoured traditions, the Canteen menu offers a range of wholesome, no-nonsense classics. Daily pies and seasonal sausages are on offer, as well as favourites like macaroni cheese or battered fish and chips. Puddings are similarly indulgent and old school, with offerings like apple pie and custard, or gingerbread with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.

An ever-bustling bar at Canteen – Royal Festival Hall offers fine wines, inventive Cockney-themed cocktails and locally-brewed ciders and beers. Homemade cakes, hand-roasted coffees and rare teas populate the afternoon tea, indicative of all the fresh ingredients used at the restaurant.

Located by the riverside in the landmark Royal Festival Hall, the Canteen is perfectly placed to further explore central London, and is just a 3-minute walk from Waterloo Train Station.

Consistently good value, efficient service, enticing menu.

Nice cosy atmosphere and good service. I always enjoy the beer here. Very good food (onglet, chips and tarragon hollandaise) also sides of beans and broccoli superbly cooked. Finished with the deceptively and deliciously light treacle tart!

Canteen is a great place for a quick bite partic pre or post theatre/show. Straightforward English grub with a limited but reasonable wine list.
    Efficient and approachable staff....

I asked for a quiet corner table away from the kitchen. We were in a remote spot and friends joked that we'd never get service. Yet we were proven wrong the staff was discreet and attentive and we never felt forgotten.
The veggie options were as often a bit poor but my big plate came with fresh greens on a side of a slightly smaller than expected pie. Yet a perfect portion of very good food.
I would have liked a small biscuit with my delicious cappuccino.

Good, honest food in a great location.

I ordered one of the pies from the specials board and it was pretty tasty but the mash was a let down as it looked unappetising and tasted precooked and warmed up. The very best thing about my meal was the greens. They were cooked perfectly and the gravy was tasty. My friends liked their meals but another of the specials priced at £10 was tasty but way too small and left her still feeling hungry. We love the location and the restaurant is designed well but some of the staff could do with educating on the food on offer (our waiter didn't know if pie pastry was short or puff, even after checking with the chef!!) and the portion sizes could be slightly more generous for the money you're paying. Overall I'd say it was worth going if you're in the area but isn't anything too special.

We were promptly welcomed on our arrival.
A very good and varied menu from which to choose.

Nice place for a quiet lunch at 12. Good service and food.

Service is pretty good. Always rather difficult to attract someone's attention to pay the bill. Love the scotch egg and the pies. And the caramel sundae is far too nice.
