Puddings are similarly indulgent and old school, with recipes like bread & butter pudding or Eton mess.

Kitsch mosaic tiling lines the Canteen Covent Garden bar, which offers fine wines, Cockney-themed cocktails and locally-brewed ciders and beers. Moreish cakes, hand-roasted coffees and rare teas make up the Canteen London afternoon tea menu.

Our breakfast would be a perfect start to a day if it wasn't for a very noisy building work scarried out upstairs, which spoiled a bit the enjoyment. Food was excellent, and environment is friendly and calm.

Dined with a group of Italian friends whom we wanted to enjoy typical Brit fare. Bit embarrassing. Poor quality all round. Fish and chips sub standard. Hot pot in edible. Not a good deal and could have done better just walking off the street rather than booking. Would not return.

We dined at 7pm. asked for a well done steak and stressed 'not even pink'. It arrived bloody sent back and returned half burnt half still not done and with soggy chips

very good location for going to the theatre, good food, excellent value for money.

Beef was poorly done - overcooked and not fresh. Duck was OK. Yorkshire pudding was overcooked as well. Service was horrible. Had to call them at least 3 times before they bring something. Waitress immediately charged for service without asking. Due to poor quality of service we have decided not to give any tips and one of them kept complaining it was our fault that "we did not say we were not going to pay for service" when we asked why were we charged when we did not say we were going to pay. It is OUR decision to pay, whether we do or not, they should NEVER complain. I will never go back again due to the extremely POOR service and BAD staff attitude.

The meal was excellent value for money, the wine served (glass of Nytimber)was delicious. We went after the theatre and the service was fast and friendly. The venue is noisy so I don't know if I would go as a couple or for a professional dinner although I suspect it is more subdued at lunch hour. I would not go with young children in a family group but with teenagers I think it is very suitable

We had a lovely lunch with a variety of dishes. All the food was very good - fresh, wholesome and well-presented. The staff were very friendly, and we were even stopped on our way out when the waitress realised she had overcharged one of our group on her credit card payment - the difference in cash was swiftly sorted by the manager.

I love canteen, it brings back all the nostalgia of my days of school dining but the quality of cooking and ingredients bears no resemblance to the dodgy stodge I was served then. Their Pies and bang on and I defy anyone not to be compelled to eat everything on the menu. Food you love to eat in a slightly more grown up but fun enviroment.
