A sophisticated Indian restaurant and cocktail lounge on Cambridge's vibrant Mill Road, Calcutta Club serves southern Indian dishes with some special family recipes.
The atmosphere at Calcutta Club is distinctly different to that of the other Mill Road curry houses. The sleek, modern design of the restaurant (complete with a tribal Indian mural) complements the leather sofas in the relaxing cocktail lounge.
The Calcutta Club menu encompasses dishes ranging from street food and regional curries to traditional thalis. The thali is a good value way of sampling various types of Indian cuisine on a tapas-style platter. All food is freshly prepared and full of flavour, with an authentic clay tandoor being used for true authenticity.
One of the newer additions to the array of Cambridge Indian restaurants, Calcutta Club offers a unique take on the traditional curry. The restaurant is within a 15-minute walk of both the train station and the town centre.

This place is a bit more expensive than the other Mill Road curry houses, but it's definitely worth the extra. It's set in what used to be the Locomotive pub, so I was expecting cheap and cheerful (the neon sign outside also implied this), but actually it's pretty classy and modern inside. The food is amazing. We both had a thali - a selection of various Indian dishes and all were really flavoursome (though slightly more curry would have been appreciated!).
