In the walled city of York, Café Rouge serves French cuisine within a glorious building featuring glass frontage and a vibrant red colour scheme. York Minister is just around the corner from Café Rouge.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Café Rouge – York allows diners to take in the atmosphere of York's side streets with al fresco dining, whist enjoying an affordable French dish.

Not so French - felt very fake French. Food quite plain eg fish and chips, chicken and chips, steak and chips - lots of chips and little bit of salad.
Used Tesco Clubcard vouchers and waitress not very welcoming and immediately told us we couldn't have the special lunch rapide menu, just a la carte which was expensive for what was served (£10-£15 for a main course).

Warm friendly welcome, seated quickly and offered a drink whilst we read the menu. Service prompt but not too keen, food quality excellent and great value in our opinion

My wife and I enjoyed our meal immensely, staff were friendly and attentive, and food was of the usual hugely acceptable standard for a late lunch. In York you are spoilt for choice, but Cafe Rouge seems to always keep up its standard.

Booked to dine upstairs in the restaurant but told on arrival not to be recommended as a large party was due and it may be noisy.
We were seated in the bar area where the public walked in off the street - the large party didn't materialise while we were there!!
Menu limited and two requested items not available (waitress comment 'we have run out of....'
    Altogether disappointed.
