Excellent food and service. Favourite starter is Camembert, this was our third visit since the beginning of November 2015.

In the walled city of York, Café Rouge serves French cuisine within a glorious building featuring glass frontage and a vibrant red colour scheme. York Minister is just around the corner from Café Rouge.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Café Rouge – York allows diners to take in the atmosphere of York's side streets with al fresco dining, whist enjoying an affordable French dish.

Food enjoyable, service good, met quickly and shown to my table courteously. Requests promptly attended to and no pressure to leave afterwards. Polite exchange as I left .

Overall lovely - prix fixe portions on the small side but taken together sufficient. Service very good - decor good but tables a bit tired and under dressed ( no candles etc) Great location and as locals we will return.

We went to Cafe Rouge in York as the one in Leeds had closed! We both chose fillet steak as this was our Christmas treat. It was cooked to perfection and came with salad or fries. We chose salad and ordered fries as an extra dish. I do feel the price of the steak dish fries should have been included but we knew before we went what was included. We asked for a quiet table and got a room all on our own! The service we received was excellent, being asked just the right amount of times if we were OK and was the meal OK. There were plenty of tables free, it was lunch time so I hope they got busy later on or they will end up like Leeds, closed.
Thankyou Cafe Rouge for a lovely meal.

Not so French - felt very fake French. Food quite plain eg fish and chips, chicken and chips, steak and chips - lots of chips and little bit of salad.
Used Tesco Clubcard vouchers and waitress not very welcoming and immediately told us we couldn't have the special lunch rapide menu, just a la carte which was expensive for what was served (£10-£15 for a main course).
