Great place to go for pre-theatre dinner. Really busy, great atmosphere, good service and excellent value for money food. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for teenagers and granny alike

A stone's throw from both the Lyceum and Aldwych theatres, Café Rouge Wellington Street serves authentic French food in a prime London location.

Part of the UK-wide group of Café Rouge restaurants, a range of traditional French dishes such as steak frites, confit duck and beef bourgignon are on offer. Amongst the tempting lighter bites, try a tasty croque monsieur, breaded camembert with cranberry and redcurrant sauce, or a classic caesar salad. A good selection of French wines, many from lesser known producers, is on hand to accompany the dishes.

Breakfast at Café Rouge is also a classically French affair. Offering croissants, pain au chocolat and baguettes, as well as hot chocolate, tea and an array of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

A popular choice for pre or post-theatre dining, Covent Garden Café Rouge also boasts outdoor seating which provides the perfect spot to watch the world go by.

Very pleasant restaurant. Good selection on the menu. Service was good as we arrived at 4.30pm before it got busy. From 5.30pm onwards service was slower as the restaurant was virtually full, although was still quite acceptable. The mulled wine was to be recommended and the main course was well presented and hot.
All in all a good experience for a three course meal before going on to the theatre.

Good service. Food served quickly. Some food on the night was already off menu as they had run out but there was still plenty of choice.Restaurant was very crowded and they do pack the clients into a very small space. It does feel like you are dining with the people sitting next to you! However the staff were very attentive and as it was Christmas time & a Friday night this may have been why.

The food we had at the cafe rouge was very good. The resturant was small so was necessary to book. The 2 hours we were there about 30 people were turned away as they had not booked. We arrived early but as we had booked and there was room available they accomodated us. The staff were very attentive though the meals were a little slow when they did arrive they were very good,

Not a great succes. The food was ok, but not made with fresh ingredients. The waiter was making an effort, but was clearly tired. While we were still having mains, they started cleaning the place and while we had desert the staff was having dinner. I never felt more rushed at a restaurant. If you want to close at a certain time, don't take reservations this late!
