In a picturesque English building, Café Rouge Tenterden serves tasty French dishes. Café Rouge has cosy English charm, with original beams and a brick fireplace in the centre of the dining room.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Café Rouge is a 5-minute walk from Kent and East Sussex Light Railway.

    Alarm bells rang when we were greeted by " I haven't looked at the web bookings". No problem as my parents had found a table. From then on the service was appalling. Every time we wanted anything we had to go tontge bar area. The waitress was conspicuous by her absence all through the meal. In the end it took them well over 2 hours to produce 4 meals, very poor indeed. When the issue was raised we were told that 2 waitresses were training. On a Saturday? Someone is not using their common sense.
    The meal itself was up to Cafè Rouge's normal high standard, the problem was delivery. I am not normally given to posting negative reviews, maybe they were having a bad day, nevertheless we were very disappointed. Sorry but you people need to raise your game. Check out Canterbury branch, they know how to run a busy restaurant

    Service was rushed a course meal in just over 60 minutes. We had Boulabaise if had no flavour ,prawns were tasteless .pate was very small piece with two strips of bread.Not been to a Cafe Rouge for a while .Prices are more expense and potions smaller

    Slow service, pleasant waitress. Noise from kitchen included the 'F' word. Sharing steak (at £18 each person) was sent back as overdone, the replacement not satisfactory. The amount for this was taken off the bill. The house red was out of stock. The wine glasses were not very clean. Beouf bourguignon, hamburger and childrens' meals were okay.

    Having had lovely meals at this restaurant before, last nights meal was very disappointing. All the good was over cooked and we both left most of our main courses. The bill was £72 (no alcohol and only two courses) and it was only the fact we had an offer voucher off the full price that prevented a complaint

    I booked for 7.30, but when I arrived Ed the were not interested in the booking as the restaurant was quiet.

    Overall had an enjoyable experience. Waiter not as effective as he could be - forgot drink from the order, spilt wine, had to check coffees ordered. Steaks were good and cooked to order - everyone enjoyed their food. We had been sent a 30% voucher to use on that particular day but had forgotten the mobile it was on; we did ask if they would honour this if we sent it to them next day but they would not do this, which was disappointing.

    Excellent evening, food well presented and relaxed atmosphere. Sharing charcuterie platter was delicious.
