Housed in the former headquarters of Samuel Ryder, Café Rouge St. Albans has a wonderful rustic feel that complements the Art Deco building. Serving a delicious range of French dishes, Café Rouge boasts a magnificent glass ceiling.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Just around the corner from St. Albans Cathedral, Café Rouge French restaurant is a 6-minute walk from St. Albans Abbey Rail Station.

The building is lovely and the staff were efficient however we are regular visitors ( every other week) and my steak was very tough. There was a big piece of gristle funning through it, I showed the waitress and she apologised and said I could have a free coffee, but that did now way cover the cost of my poor meal,

Booking service great. Lovely Art Deco surroundings, great food & service. Using vouchers complicated the bill but dealt with well even though it took time. Would recommend especially with online & Tesco vouchers - very very reasonably priced. A*

A beautiful restaurant because the building is so lovely and it was better than usual because the Christmas decorations were so tasteful and added to the ambiance. The service was excellent and all the staff were friendly and efficient, a credit to Cafe Rouge. We all had the beef bourginion which was presented well and looked lovely but was rather tasteless. The rest of the food pate, onion soup, apple pie and Eton mess was very good.

Restaurant quiet but service very patchy. Main course arrived straight after starters- no time to digest!
I had salad, very poor mostly leaves, paid extra for salmon- poor value for money.
After main course waitress then left us alone- we had to ask for coffees, bill and then find someone to take our payment. We did not tip
