Surrounded by shops, Café Rouge Sheffield serves good quality French cuisine. Diners can enjoy a rustic interior with authentic French features or dine in the al fresco seating area.

As part of the nationwide chain of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Café Rouge in Sheffield is a good choice for a quick lunch or a more formal evening meal.

The food was generally OK but croutons on my caesar salad were stale and the dessert was waffles that were clearly out of a packet with a tinned pear and ice cream. Very overpriced for what it was. The location near my place of work is the main reason we use this restaurant but I try to only eat there if I have vouchers for at least 40% off - the food is not worth any more.

We were going to City Hall for a concert at 8:00pm and booked the table for 6:30 on Thursday after work. As the weather was nice, and with the restaurant being in the Peace Gardens, it was busy outside and gave the ambience of a French cafe. Inside, it was fairly quiet as we were eating early. Service was fine and we had plenty of time for two courses. However we did not take a chance with ordering dessert as it was 7:30 and we had a 10 minute walk to City Hall. Overall nice, pleasant meal - good choice on the menu and reasonably priced.

Midweek lunch with a visiting foreign friend (over here on business). A mistake. Everything appeared rather tired. More a pretentious "greasy-spoon" than Paris sophistication. Over priced and uninspired food. Even though I paid with supermarket vouchers (making it effectively a quarter of the menu price) I felt poorly served. No redeeming features.

meat tough - one steak was 50% gristle. got a refund on the bill but food not up to much, nothing special. silly thin chips, no salad garnish with steak and chips. bottled beer over priced - no draft beer used vouchers to reduce cost - would not go there at full price. drinks take ages to arrive at the table even though it was nearly empty
