Situated on the High Street of this historic city, Café Rouge - Salisbury serves delicious French bistro-style cuisine in a cosy and welcoming ambience. The restaurant is close to the river, and just beside Old George Mall.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Café Rouge - Salisbury is a 10-minute walk from Salisbury Rail Station.

Loved our visit to Cafe Rouge in Salisbury.
Our waiter was James- lovely guy, very efficient and friendly, best of all he smiled alot and genuinely appeared to enjoy interacting with the customers. Service was excellent and nothing was a problem.
Food was wonderful - very tasty and reasonably priced.
    Downside - the ladies toilets.
Spillage, toilet roll and and bizarrely sweets, on the floors in two of the cubicles my friend and I went into.
The stairs to get to the loo's are narrow and steep.
Would throughly recommend this restaurant- but not their conveniences.

I have eaten in Café Rouges for many years and this was the first bad experience I have had. We were a big group, a family of nine meeting together for a special occasion. I chose Café Rouge because it has always been so reliable. First impressions were good: the décor was very cheery and welcoming, up to Café Rouge's usual high standards, the table was nicely laid with lemon in the water glasses and the waiter was very attentive and friendly. But things went downhill soon after! At least one of the children's dishes was lukewarm and had to be sent back; this was followed by two further dishes (mussels and a French tart) that appeared to be undercooked and also had to be sent back. The child's macaroni cheese reappeared suitably warmed but the mussels' customer was left with no food (and no further explanation). The recooked tart was eventually brought back - but well after everyone else had finished eating. I appreciate that it was a very busy lunchtime and the staff seemed stressed and overwhelmed by their workload but the management should ensure that there is sufficient manpower for the number of customers and that the food is of a sufficiently high and consistent quality. Our waiter did knock off the price of the undercooked dishes and made further concessions, and we feel that overall he did his best under the circumstances. But it did leave a bad taste in my mouth and I will, sadly, hesitate to use a Café Rouge again.

Food is good, but not amazing (but then it's good value for the price).

I love the overall feel of the place though, very nice decor and atmosphere.

We were asked what drinks we wanted before we sat down, and then again before we'd looked at the menu, not good. Drinks came in about 8mins, food in about 15, so ok. Having ordered dessert at same time as mains we waited 25 mins, already having requested twice that we wanted them soon. Not good enough. When we arrived at 12-20pm for our booked table at 12-30pm the restaurant was about half full, so we thought that total time spent was too long; we did not have coffee as we were annoyed and had other things to do.

Excellent service. But my wife's meal was laid up on a cold plate and was not very warm at all. My steak with Salad was tough and tasteless ( plate for this was and should have been cold) . Crevettes were excellent.

It is a very well positioned restaurant which we have been to many times. This visit was spoilt by the time it took to get our main course. We booked a table at 6:15pm and arrived just before then. Our order was taken quickly. We had garlic bread for starter which came quickly but the main course did not arrive until 7:10. We commented on how long it took but the waiter did not offer any apology. When we paid (another person) they did apologise. There were plenty of waiters and so presumably the problem was in the kitchen. The place was only about one third full. Our main courses were a chicken salad and a steak. Not dishes you would expect to take a long time to prepare.
This follows on from the comments made by a group of friends who ate there a few nights earlier and had to wait three quarters of an hour for their food.
We have enjoyed going to café Rouge many times in the past but will give it a miss for a while now

Food was good. Quite pricey, it would have been nice to have a free glass of bubbly, so that was a disappointment. Staff were friendly and service was good.

Booked table on line and confirmation e mail said I would be contacted nearer the time for a deposit and menu choices. This never happened. My husband 'phoned about a week before and left our choices - these were not recorded and when we visited on Saturday 19th, only the table had been reserved.
We ordered and waited, the food was average at best, with no account having been taken of my onion family allergy which was advised in the original booking. Parsnips were not cooked, sprouts overcooked and brown. Duck was delcious but too salty. Unable to eat starter due to garlic. Puddings were nice.
When we came to pay the waitress (very helpful) said I need to see about a discount for the problems but the manager refused.
    All in all disappointing.
