Le Poulet Breton never fails to please. Used Tesco vouchers which made the cost of the meal very reasonable.

In the centre of Gunwharf Quays and surrounded by shops, Café Rouge Portsmouth serves traditional French cuisine in a light and spacious dining room.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

With ample seats and a relaxed ambience, the Café Rouge Portsmouth menu is affordable and caters for all French tastes.

We had made a booking for lunch for the Groupon steak frites deal for two, we were shown straight to our table and brought wine and water within minutes of arriving. Our meal took a little longer (but the restaurant was very busy), but every bit was really tasty, it was lovely and hot, an excellent deal. The staff were all lovely and very professional.

No menus on the table when we arrived despite being a reserved table. The starter arrived before the drinks. The duck we ordered was awful, very little meat and a lot of very crispy skin.

Good food, good service, ambience super, always helpful and discreet. I've never had a bad dish here and we come as a family group about once a month, so we're full on and noisy!

The meal was very disappointing and we left the main course uneaten. We were advised that the grill wasn't working but the steak seemed to have been bashed (tenderised) and cooked as if boiled rather than 'fried and in the oven'??? as described. It should not have been served as an option. We were offered a desert when we complained but declined. Soup was good
