On the city’s majestic Grey Street, Café Rouge Newcastle offers timeless French classics with a modern twist. Scarlet banquettes and mahogany brasserie furnishings are dotted through the Parisian-style dining room.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is an important meal at Café Rouge in Newcastle . With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

A family favourite in the heart of the city, Newcastle Café Rouge is an 8-mintue walk from Newcastle Central Train Station.

This was the second time I have been to Cafe Rouge for a quick lunch. I have been very pleased on both occasions. I took my wife and two friends this time, neither of whom had eaten in Cafe Rouge before.
The premises are attractive and bigger than it looks from outside. The menu is quite diverse, allowing a good choice for a quick main course but also wide range of starters, mains and deserts, all in a French style. There is a very reasonable children's menu. I have only had soup (first occasion), and omelette with fries and salad, so cannot really comment on the more serious main courses. I look forward to a future visit for a more leisurely lunch.
The staff were efficient and courteous, on both occasions expediting our meal when I explained that our time was limited.

We went for an early evening meal before going to the Sage Gateshead. Staff were polite and friendly but we waited a while for the food to be served..

The service was first class and the food was excellent. My cousins and I were there to celebrate my 70th birthday so it was a very special occasion. Everything at Cafe Rouge helped to make it special.

    Slow service

The food was lovely and our server was smiley and friendly. My only gripe is the uncomfortable hard chairs and we were refused a booth as there were only two of us. However the booths remained empty while we were there.

The whole booking/reservation experience was very efficient, staff were very helpful and answered any questions I had. On the night we had excellent service, again staff were knowledgeable about the food and drinks and the pace of service was just right. We were given a choice of tables which was nice and the restaurant was very festive. We were a party of five and we all enjoyed every course we had. I had the confit of duck and it was delicious - cooked to perfection. The drinks package was taken advantage of by 3 of us and it was put together well.
