On the 9th level of the Birmingham Mailbox, Café Rouge offers an authentic French menu. Café Rouge offers views of the waterways from the al fresco dining area, whilst there is a friendly buzz inside.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

A 10-minute walk from Birmingham New Street Train Station, Café Rouge – Mailbox offers a relaxed venue for French dining.

The staff were friendly and courteous, the surroundings were pleasant. We were a party of three and ate three courses each, every course was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and really tasty. The duck leg was crispy on the outside and the meat was tender. Would recommend this restaurant.

Service was shocking, from start to finish we were there 3 hours with a wait of 45 minutes between courses and not all meals coming out together! By the time one person has finished their meal someone else's was just coming out! Waitress was lovely and couldn't apologise enough but all the manager kept saying was it was because they had a large party in! They should have thought about this before excepting bookings at the same time! Most of the other tables were empty around us too! He did however knock a considerable amount off the bill but only we complained about every course!

Four of us enjoyed lunch from the set menu. The food was good and plentiful in all cases. We weren't hurried so had time to catch up on conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. Maybe the background music could have been lower but it was not as bad as at some places!

Very good. We had booked for the £15 including glass of fizz but the only offer there was £12.95 for 2 course lunch, but the offering on this menu wasn't to our liking so we ended up paying £25 per head for 3 course lunch and fizz, so extra £10 per head which seems a little steep.
    The service was very good
