Fashionable Holborn is home to the Café Rouge Kingsway, serving classic French cuisine just a short walk from Drury Lane Theatreland and Covent Garden.

Part of the UK-wide Café Rouge restaurant chain, this branch offers their signature range of French dishes including mussels, beef bourguignon, poulet Breton and steak frites, as well as lighter dishes. For lunch and dinner (on certain days) the set menus are also excellent value. There is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With pain au chocolat, croissants, baguettes and omelettes, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

For a pre-theatre meal or simply a relaxing time with friends and family, Holborn Café Rouge is a popular choice.

    I reserved a table so that I and my wife could meet up with old friends from Scotland who were passing through London and had a couple of hours free, so there were some advantages for us on this occasion that the service was slow and sporadic as it gave us a good long chance to chat. But the speed of the service would have been unacceptable under more normal circumstances and, even on this occasion, it was annoying that my main course, when it eventually arrived, was cold because it had obviously been waiting for some time after it was cooked before the waiter picked it up.

    A good choice for a meal pre theatre for 4. The food arrived in good time and the service was pleasant. Everyone enjoyed the food and the staff dealt with the gluten free request with close attention.

    We went to Cafe Rouge as a pre theatre lunch, and we really enjoyed it there. The food was very nice - the burger tasty; French onion soup was delicious. Staff were friendly and efficient too. Recommend.

    Plenty of room available at this large restaurant very close to theatre - good location.
    The main dishes (chicken) were nothing special but they were good value and served hot - they were good sized portions. Service was good;

    Went for a post theatre meal with the grandkids after seeing 'The Snowman' at the Peacock theatre. As soon as we arrived everyone went to the toilet so left me alone at the table. The waitress came to the table and asked if I would like to order drinks and I asked politely if she could wait until everyone came back. When they came back, the waitress didn't. This was an half empty restaurant and we waited ten minutes before I had to ask for service. Food was OK but service was very indifferent and not very friendly, it was as if we were obviously English in a Paris restaurant. I am not sure I will go there again.
