Café Rouge Henley-on-Thames serves delicious French brasserie-style cuisine. With plush red banquette seating and authentic art, Café Rouge’s interior transports diners to a traditional Parisian café.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Boasting an al fresco dining area, Café Rouge is a 6-minute walk from the Kempton Theatre.

The food was excellent, staff friendly, and because we had limited time, it was very good of the staff to accommodate our 'quick turnaround'. The one ladies toilet however, could do with a little up-dating.

Quite honestly with a group of 6 every steak was cooked to perfection with no waste on the fillets and the regulation band of fat on the rib eye. Everything thing was perfect, I would definitely recommend this venue in Henley.

    good experience

The restaurant was about 1/3 to half full. It was quite quiet, nicely decorated and nice and warm. First fail was they'd run out of coloured pencils for the kids activities, which as a parent on my own with a 4 and 8 year old was not very helpful! Wasn't even offered a standard pen or anything for them to use. Second fail was that there was no tonic water for G&T!! The menu was reasonably priced and a good range. As a coeliac, I was a bit concerned on ordering when the server got confused over which items contained Gluten. G means Gluten-free, she initially thought this meant they contained gluten. The confusion was quickly corrected - though only as I'd read the small print on the menu, which didn't fill me with confidence - can't leave these things to chance!! There was a reasonable choice of GF food and the kids menu was good and reasonably priced. I had a very good 'minute' steak and frites - well cooked and lovely fresh side salad. The burger went down very well (looked great), the sausages not so - 4 yo said they were a bit 'hot' i.e. spicy, though again, these looked v good and the 8yo thought they were fine; maybe just best avoided if your kids like v plain food! Service was very attentive initially, but not so much as the meal went on; sometimes the staff seemed more interested in their own conversations than checking on customers; we had to get up to ask for more drinks and the bill. That said, the staff were pleasant and polite when they were with us and a nice touch was them giving the kids crackers as they left.
