In Edinburgh city centre, Café Rouge is housed in a grand building and offers a charming French dining experience. There is a popular outside seating area for al fresco dining.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Princess Street Gardens are within easy reach of Café Rouge in Edinburgh. Edinburgh Rail Station is a 12-minute walk away.

We love café Rouge because of the consistent excellent atmosphere. The lighting and décor work perfectly, the food is excellent and the staff are so friendly.

Very nice welcome, good, friendly, attentive waitresses. Croque Madame never disappoints, puddings all very good (trio of desserts, kids choc crepe, white choc crepe, choc ice-cream). Slightly disappointed at Boeuff Bourginon, very watery sauce and quite economic portions of the veg (green beans, carrots, small scoop of herb mash) not great for £15. Otherwise all fine. Very central location just off George Street, nice interior, the Christmas lights and tree inside looked lovely too.

We choose to dine here as I have eaten in a few Cafe Rouge. I wouldn't return to this one, the restaurant was cold, the Scottish Staff were friendly but sadly there were very few of them. We ordered pate and toast for stater, luke warm bread with pate, I returned it, the second lot wasn't much better. The set menu was limited. Very disappointing experience

Wonderful dining experience again. The atmosphere was great. We were served very quickjly by a very nice waiter. He took our orders without writing anythging down and never got anything wrong. The food was great. I particularly liked the lobster bisque. My dining companions all had a wonderful meal too. Not too far from Princess street and just off George Square, it is in an ideal location. The prices are not out of the way either.
