In Edinburgh city centre, Café Rouge is housed in a grand building and offers a charming French dining experience. There is a popular outside seating area for al fresco dining.

As part of the nationwide group of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

The Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Princess Street Gardens are within easy reach of Café Rouge in Edinburgh. Edinburgh Rail Station is a 12-minute walk away.

Very basic uninteresting dish - over cooked chicken escalopes, burnt even, and "salad" consisted of a piece of watercress. Service good and pleasant surroundings but wouldn't hurry back.

I normally have a lovely meal but I didn't enjoy my chicken it was very dry and this the second time we have had lunch and no duck available . Not sure why you don't ever have enough duck as it was 14.30 so not impressed . Didn't enjoy my visit as much as I normally do

A lilttle dissapointed as they had no Mussel which me and my 11 year old was really looking forward too. We choose the Sea bass instead, unfortunately it did not come with a side so we had to pay an extra £3 for new potatoes, this seemed strange as all the other dishes came with a side dish.
