We dined in the evening, the food was delicious, perfectly cooked and the service was good. Only criticism was that the sugar on my creme brulee was not caramelised (very disappointing!!)

In the heart of the picturesque town, Cafe Rouge Bishops Stortford presents sophisticated French cuisine. With sleek, dark wood furnishings, the quaint, bistro-style dining room evokes a chic yet relaxed ambience.

As part of the nationwide chain of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Close to the banks of the River Stort, Cafe Rouge Bishops Stortford is just 10 minutes’ stroll from Bishops Stortford Rail Station.

We had a meal at 8.30 on a Saturday. The restaurant was only a querter full which meant there was little atmosphere. The restauarant ran out of red wine and the steaks were tough and fatty- I would not go back. Very poor value for money

I brought my children for lunch and they loved it. The kids menu was just right. I enjoyed my steak and house wine. We will come again, and will be booking my daughter's birthday dinner here. The staff were very attentive.

Recently opened in Bishop Stortford but it was a shambles. Waited to be asked for drinks, then first course (which was only pate and bread) and then 40 plus minutes between starter and main course. We asked after about 25 mins when we could expect our main course and was told by the manager "It was just coming".It took another 15 mins!!!!!! The main course was from their set menu of pasta and mushroom sauce which was at best, tasteless.Dont go to this Cafe Rouge, go to Cambridge one, we would give this 5 stars
