In a traditional white building, Café Rouge Berkhamsted serves a delightful selection of French dishes. Authentic and quaint inside, Café Rouge has an al fresco dining area in their private garden.

As part of the nationwide chain of Café Rouge restaurants, this branch offers their range of classic French dishes such as confit duck, beef bourguignon, steak frites and mussels. Smaller dishes are also on offer for a lighter bite. Particularly good value for money are the set menus for lunch and dinner (available most days). To accompany the food there is also a good range of French wines, many from less well known producers.

In true French style, breakfast is also an important meal at Café Rouge. With croissants, pain au chocolat, omelettes and croques, as well as hot chocolate, tea and all types of coffees, it makes a great start to the day.

Set on Berkhamsted’s High Street, Cafe Rouge is within a 10-minute walk of Berkhamsted Train Station.

We arrived at 4.25 for our reserved table at 4.30 Sunday afternoon. Taken straight to our seats, through 2 nice seating areas, to a larger back room where nobody else was sitting. I'd booked our table online & included I'd be partly paying by Tesco vouchers & the party was for 2 adults & 3 children, I felt they had wanted to hide us away incase we were undesirables. Our service was ok however we did wait an hour before the food arrived (other diners from the other rooms arrived after us but were already being served). The "Succulent Prime Sirloin" was so thin, I wish I could add a photo to this review so you could believe it. Ok tasting, but definitely wouldn't order it again. Then the Moules Marinieres was very dissapointing, broken shells, beards and three mussles with sand, third of the bowl eaten, it was sent back to the kitchen. On a good note, they removed the mussles from the bill and gave me a free small starter and dessert. Not long before we left, more dinners joined us in the back room but we had been there over 2 hours by that point. After having more dissapointing experiences with Cafe Rouge than happy times, we've decided yesterday was our last. We are now regretting using Tesco vouchers for Cafe Rouge.

Table booked for 12:30pm but arrived at 12:15pm. The most delicious food and wine at top quality. Our only issue was feeling hurried to place our order, being asked by three waitresses in five minutes.

Generally good but we had to remind them about the bread, this has happened a few times before in other Cafe Rouge's, not quite sure why

Favourite place to eat but disappointing for special birthday celebration taking new friends not previously enjoyed Cafe Rouge. Food cold, re-heated and inedible, inaccurate bill, embarrassing taking friends not previously eaten there and promising superb food and atmosphere - will certainly think twice before returning.

Dined early Sunday evening with a voucher. Service at times a little too overbearing but overall a good experience.
