A landmark in this picture-perfect city, Browns Brasserie & Bar – Oxford was the second Browns restaurant to open, just across the road from St Giles Church. Tucked away in a terrace of 18th-century houses, the brasserie serves a good choice of European-inspired dishes, and thirst-quenching cocktails.
Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous European flavours include lobster tagliatelle, the wild boar & chorizo burger, or steak pie with buttered mash and broad beans. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.
Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, smoothies and creamy milkshakes. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.
Browns Brasserie & Bar - Oxford is a 15-minute walk from Oxford Rail Station.

Food was lovely but we had booked the promotional deal of afternoon tea for 2 for £25. We then received the bill and was charged £27 plus service charge!! I complained about this and was asked for proof that I had booked the promotional deal even though I could see that the promotion was listed beside my booking on their computer system. I was not happy. The manager was very direct and would not try to see my side of the issue - and I was the customer!!!! So, I paid the £27 plus service. Then I left the restaurant and the manager followed me out and accused me of not paying - I had paid the waiter! It was a terrible experience.

We had the Champagne afternoon tea, which we all thought was excellent value. Nice selection of treats, portion size was good.
The restaurant had a really nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly.

One course was badly overcooked, otherwise the experience was very good with attentive service. The overcooked course was removed from the bill.

Everything was well, excellent service from waitress. But we had made a reservation for afternoon tea at 17.00, and when we arrived they informed us, in a not so polite manner, that they only serve it until 17, and that I felt we wanted it we had to order within two minutes. ( we arrived at16.58) Mind you, this was before we had even had a chance to sit down or even take our coats off. That is not a way to greet your guests! Finally we managed to get afternoon tea after having talked to the kitchen, but I feel like this was highly unprofessional and not a nice was tk bw welcomed. I know for sure we booked afternoon tea ( and not dinner or anything else) on the website, so telling us off like that was not very nice. However the device we received thereafter was good and the tea was delicious.

Overall not too bad but we had several issues.
The food was generally not hot!
1. Green greens not cooked - school boy error!
2. The pork crackling had no flavour - what's happened to seasoning food properly?
3. Brown burger - 1 thin slice of gherkin, 1 1/2 leaves of lettuce, a dribble of mustard mayo on the top bun... it costs enough for you to be far more generous. These aren't the the most expensive ingredients....are they?
4. Pot of tea - one teabag for a pot of tea for two .... come on!
I won't go on as I don't believe anything I say is used or filtered back.

Excellent meal, food very well presented, dishes include vegetables which is always a plus. Not busy so we were able to spend several hours there. Only one gripe -- coffee was only lukewarm so needed drinking straight away.

Browns, wherever it is offers a good brasserie type dining experience. Service standards are uniformly good but I suspect that small groups are more likely to enjoy the experience than larger tables. Menus are standard which although reassuring in terms of quality can be a little boring. If there were specials in this branch, I was not aware of them.
