Housed in the converted Athenaeum, Browns Brasserie & Bar – Manchester serves a delicious menu of hearty European food and thirst-quenching cocktails in a vibrant, contemporary atmosphere. Designed in 1902, the building incorporates Edwardian baroque architecture with eye-catching art-nouveau detailing, such as intricate wrought-iron work.

Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous European flavours include lobster tagliatelle, the wild boar & chorizo burger, or steak pie with buttered mash and broad beans. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.

Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, smoothies and creamy milkshakes. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.

Browns Brasserie & Bar - Manchester is a 15-minute walk from Salford Central Rail Station. Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre is just a 5-minute walk away.

excellent service nice looking restaurant, though I would have preferred to be in the main restaurant as it looked nicer. Food was very good scones warm ,which doesn't always happen with afternoon teas, I would have liked a little more filling in the sandwiches but the cake selection was lovely. Very good value for money although I prefer to use my own discretion on the tip rather than there being a service charge.

Our visit to Browns was lovely and we really enjoyed all the bits on our afternoon tea. My only critiscim would be the table we were sat at was in a little corner and therefore we didn't have much atmosphere and weren't able to admire the beauty of the building. The stands the afternoon tea came on seemed a bit tatty and had a bit of another type of food on the metal stand which wasn't the best! Overall we enjoyed it but potentially wouldn't come back for afternoon tea and would definitely ask to sit in the main dining area.

Couldn't fault the meal, the service by Steph M. and the other guys who took the orders, brought drinks etc. The food was fabulous.
The only drawback was the bunch of loud, boorish, shouting and screaming toe-rags who were in the entrance which looks as though it has become a smoking area.
A table is provided for the smokers to have a drink whilst smoking.
If people want to smoke, that is absolutely fine by me, but you shouldn't have to walk through seven or eight people and a cloud of smoke, to get into the restaurant..
We got there at 6pm and throughout the meal all that could be heard was the noise emanating from the loons in the doorway, who thought they were having a great time.
I did bring it up with Steph but it would seem that this couldn't be dealt with. I mean have you tried to reason with one person who has had a few too many?
However, the clowns eventually went by about 7.15pm
    Otherwise, we'll be back.
    Hopefully the buffoons won't be!!

A party of 7 visited Browns in Manchester on April 28th for Afternoon Tea, our waitress Chelsea, was very pleasant and helpful, the food was beautifully presented and we were provided with a large pot of tea each, at other venues we have had to share a pot between two people, all in all it was a very enjoyable experience, we were there over two hours and didn't feel under pressure to leave, we would definitely visit it again. The cost was very reasonable for the quality of the food.

Nice atmospheric building. Waiter very friendly. Afternoon tea presented well and enjoyable. Not happy about being charged for tap water. Extra drinks pricey too.

Ate on Mother's Day for the 3 course meal at £23.95 each. More than worth it. The food was delicious, all three courses.
Couldn't fault the decor, nor the table setting and ambience.
There was a couple of minor mishaps with service; such as forgotten drinks and one of our diners desert order, but nothing that wasn't resolved easily.
However, upon paying the bill and leaving the restaurant, I was shocked to discover a £21 service charge had been added to the bill receipt without us being given the choice. I think this is quite a costly amount, and almost the cost of the 3 course meal itself!
Overall, id say a lovely restaurant that is worth a visit, but not liking the sneaky service charges they add onto their bills.
