Housed in the converted Athenaeum, Browns Brasserie & Bar – Manchester serves a delicious menu of hearty European food and thirst-quenching cocktails in a vibrant, contemporary atmosphere. Designed in 1902, the building incorporates Edwardian baroque architecture with eye-catching art-nouveau detailing, such as intricate wrought-iron work.
Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous European flavours include lobster tagliatelle, the wild boar & chorizo burger, or steak pie with buttered mash and broad beans. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.
Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, smoothies and creamy milkshakes. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.
Browns Brasserie & Bar - Manchester is a 15-minute walk from Salford Central Rail Station. Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre is just a 5-minute walk away.

Ate on Mother's Day for the 3 course meal at £23.95 each. More than worth it. The food was delicious, all three courses.
Couldn't fault the decor, nor the table setting and ambience.
There was a couple of minor mishaps with service; such as forgotten drinks and one of our diners desert order, but nothing that wasn't resolved easily.
However, upon paying the bill and leaving the restaurant, I was shocked to discover a £21 service charge had been added to the bill receipt without us being given the choice. I think this is quite a costly amount, and almost the cost of the 3 course meal itself!
Overall, id say a lovely restaurant that is worth a visit, but not liking the sneaky service charges they add onto their bills.

Firstly, I loved the interior of Browns Brasserie - tall, ornate ceilings gave it a classy, spatial feel. this was well matched by the generous spacing of the tables. The staff were very professional in how they conducted themselves - they would leave the table well alone if there was someone still eating, but very perceptive when service was needed. excellent service with good humour and pleasant manners.
The food was very good indeed; well presented, still hot when it reached the table and very, very tasty. The deserts were delicious - not too sweet but incredibly intense. The price of the food was very reasonable for city centre venues and the wine selection had a good range of prices to suit all budgets.
I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the city or living here and wanting somewhere special to eat out.

I attended for afternoon tea for my mums birthday. I was impressed with the venue from the moment I walked in. Lovely decor and it felt like everything was going to be of a high standard and it was. The afternoon tea was lovely, great choice of sandwiches and cakes, certainly very filling. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend and return to experience lunch or dinner.
