Once a part of the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the building housing Browns Brasserie & Bar Bristol is modelled on the Doge’s palace in Venice, and is situated just next to the prestigious University of Bristol. Part of the landscape of this vibrant city, the brasserie serves a menu of British and European-inspired cuisine in a lively, friendly environment.

Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous flavours include roasted lamb with potatoes & minted peas, Browns’ signature fish pie, and decadent salted caramel profiteroles. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.

Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, smoothies and creamy milkshakes. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.

Browns Brasserie & Bar Bristol is just a 15-minute walk from Clifton Down Rail Station.

Arrived at 7pm for our booking, were greeted politely and shown to a table. We were given 5 different menus and waitress was unclear which menu corresponded with the deal we had booked (£19.95 for 2 courses + 1 drink). We waited over half an hour, in a restaurant which was very quiet, for our order to be taken. We were not offered anything to drink or eat prior to our order. We were almost at the point of leaving. We asked for some water when we finally ordered, but had to ask again after another 15 minutes, as nothing was forthcoming. When our meal finally came, at least 50 minutes after we arrived, even though the main wasn't what we had ordered, we accepted it and it was wonderful!
The waitress was polite and very pleasant, but we were disappointed in the length of time of service and felt initially ignored.
The food was excellent, but we felt the establishment was let down by the poor initial service.

Six friends enjoyed a very nice Christmas meal at Browns in Queens Road last night. When we arrived for our meal we were greeted nicely and shown at once to our table, the bar area was packed so we had our first drinks at the table. The food was good, hot and plenty of it. The desserts were delicious and the cheese board very generous. The staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy, it was an extremely busy night in the restaurant and every request was dealt with quickly without fuss. Thank you to everyone involved for making our first visit for many many years so memorable. It was very noisy, but then it is nearly Christmas!

Great meal, service & new refurbishment brings the restaurant a lovely face lift :-)

We were a bit disappointed to find out that, as the restaurant was closing for a refurbishment the following day, a number of items were not on the menu. I had rung the restaurant regarding the reservation so they could have told me at the time or texted me with a message. That said we had an enjoyable meal although my rib-eye steak was rather tough - shame it wasn't off the menu! We had booked via Bookatable for the 25% off food deal and the waitress had acknowledged this at the time of taking our order, pointing out that the items on the set menu were not included in our deal. We were therefore surprised when our bill did not show the reduction and the same waitress then insisted on seeing the confirmation email - which we supplied without problem. This booking would have been on their system stating the discount anyway. We often visit both the Covent Garden and Nottingham branches and felt this branch wasn't up to the same high standard. Hopefully it was just an off day due to the impending closure.

I dined with a friend before a concert. We didn't have too much time, so i chose steak frites, with a glass of Malbec and my friend had a seafood pasta dish with Pinot Grigio. Both were delicious and the service was good. The restaurant will be refurbished in November, but we will return in December to try one of their cocktails and to explore the menu.

Generally great but did not honour the 25% off book a table offer

I ordered crispy duck salad. It was very bland and disappointing. I would think twice before eating at Brown's again.
