Once a part of the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the building housing Browns Brasserie & Bar Bristol is modelled on the Doge’s palace in Venice, and is situated just next to the prestigious University of Bristol. Part of the landscape of this vibrant city, the brasserie serves a menu of British and European-inspired cuisine in a lively, friendly environment.

Spanning from breakfast through to lunch and dinner, the Browns menu offers all-day brasserie dining. Indulgent plats du jour and Sunday roasts are staple favourites, while sumptuous European flavours include lobster tagliatelle, the wild boar & chorizo burger, or steak pie with buttered mash and broad beans. A sophisticated children’s menu at Browns offers tempting favourites with a grown-up twist.

Showcasing a penchant for cocktails, the Browns bar offers an array of classic mixes, signature concoctions and thirst-quenching mocktails, as well as fine world wines, smoothies and creamy milkshakes. Enjoy Browns’ afternoon tea and cake accompanied freshly-roasted coffee from an independent supplier, or a warming pot of loose leaf tea.

Browns Brasserie & Bar Bristol is just a 15-minute walk from Clifton Down Rail Station.

Great meal, service & new refurbishment brings the restaurant a lovely face lift :-)

We were a bit disappointed to find out that, as the restaurant was closing for a refurbishment the following day, a number of items were not on the menu. I had rung the restaurant regarding the reservation so they could have told me at the time or texted me with a message. That said we had an enjoyable meal although my rib-eye steak was rather tough - shame it wasn't off the menu! We had booked via Bookatable for the 25% off food deal and the waitress had acknowledged this at the time of taking our order, pointing out that the items on the set menu were not included in our deal. We were therefore surprised when our bill did not show the reduction and the same waitress then insisted on seeing the confirmation email - which we supplied without problem. This booking would have been on their system stating the discount anyway. We often visit both the Covent Garden and Nottingham branches and felt this branch wasn't up to the same high standard. Hopefully it was just an off day due to the impending closure.

I dined with a friend before a concert. We didn't have too much time, so i chose steak frites, with a glass of Malbec and my friend had a seafood pasta dish with Pinot Grigio. Both were delicious and the service was good. The restaurant will be refurbished in November, but we will return in December to try one of their cocktails and to explore the menu.

Generally great but did not honour the 25% off book a table offer

I ordered crispy duck salad. It was very bland and disappointing. I would think twice before eating at Brown's again.

Friendly staff, portions a bit large but good food. Fresh mint tea needs ways more mint!!
