Really enjoyed the meal from start to finish. My mum wasn't sure about the menu but in the end she loved and said the cod in saffron sauce is one of her favourite meals!

Both our starters were good but unfortunately both our mains were cold. The service was good but upon receipt of the bill was very disappointed to see a 10% service charge, why?

We had lunch at Forty 4 on Wednesday 28, March. We were picked up by the very personable owner in the centre of Leeds and carried in style in a Jaguar XF to the restaurant. That's a lovely way to start what is a real dining experience. Knowledgeable staff and an excellent chef as well as a very imaginative wine buyer combine to aim please everyone. My daughter and I shared a beautifully cooked chateaubriand with definite melt-in-the-mouth quality accompanied by the best dauphinois potatoes ever (we all agreed with that quote from my sister). The oxtail risotto was a star and the banana sponge with salted caramel ice-cream was a real hit. This restaurant justly deserves 5 stars.

First diners of the evening and everything was perfect - the welcome, pre-dinner aperitifs, the service, the wine list and the Pouily Fume - heavenly, the smoked haddock gratin followed by rare venison - a great start to our Saturday evening out.
