The setting and atmosphere was fabulous and the reception was excellent. The hand over to our waiter was very good and he was very knowledgeable about what was on offer and swift in the service. The whole evening was very enjoyable and more that we were expecting.

Extremely slow service. We booked a table for 7pm and left at 9:15pm, one hour and fifteen minutes of that was spent waiting for dessert. We actually felt embarrassed for the staff as service was so bad and if we hadn't have pre-paid on our package we would have left and gone to McDonalds or similar!
The table we were seated at was completely bare, no condiments. Initially we were served fairly promptly but we could see and hear other people complaining.
Our starters arrived, food was good, main course arrived fairly quickly after. We had to ask for vinegar, no sauces offered, no salt and pepper available.

After our main courses were finished we were left with the empty plates for nearly 30 minutes. Eventually a waiter removed them and asked if we'd like dessert menus. Another wait, menus arrived but then no one took our order. I went to talk to the manager who was busy with something else so was not really interested but she did come over some time later. Eventually someone took our order but the desserts never arrived. During our wait other diners arrived, ate, left. The manager went to chase up our desserts twice, but from finishing our main courses 7:45pm to the desserts arriving after 9:10pm is just ridiculous.

I would like to add that one particular waitress made it her job to completely ignore us, tended to every other table around us while deliberately refusing to even glance our way, she knew very well we were waiting with dirty plates. Incredibly rude and unprofessional.

We were only offered drinks once, when we first arrived, after that we had to help ourselves to water from a central bar.
We did complain and were given a sincere apology from the manager but we were very disappointed that our holiday has gotten off to such a start.
We actually felt embarrassed for the staff, worst service in any hotel we have stayed in.

The food was good but the service was soooooo slow it was unbelievable. People on tables near us who had sat down and ordered after us were served their main courses before us! Another table next to us also had to wait forever to get their main course. We booked the table for 630pm, we had 3 courses and didn't get the main course until around 8pm. Totally unacceptable. Such a shame as the food was good when it eventually arrived.

Mediocre choice of menu. Didn't start well when we had to ask for the water & wine we ordered, the server had forgotten! No idea how to pour wine either; just opened the bottle a poured large amounts in both glasses & screwed lid back on! About 45 mins later we were wondering where the food was & a different server brought out some Artisan bread, which we said we hadn't ordered. He returned it too the kitchen to then bring it back saying it was complementary as our food was going to be longer as it hadn't been ordered!!! Total shambles! When it did finally arrive, looked nice but only tepid. We were both too hungry to return it by then though!
    Never again!

Lovely quiet setting with a peaceful calm quiet restaurant.
Myself, my grandmother-in law and my son had afternoon tea and it was the best we have had. Although we wish there more opportunities to speak to staff for extra hot water for tea etc.
But overall it was lovely and we will definitely be back!

Would have rated 5* if staff were around more

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in the dining room of the Hilton Doubletree in Southampton for my Mum's birthday. The supervisor, Anthony, was very attentive and spent time talking to us. Our server, Kinga, was very helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. We had pre booked so our tea was delivered very promptly. We had smoked salmon, cheese and pickle and ham and mustard sandwiches, followed by the most delicious warm plain scones with clotted cream and jam, finishing up with a selection of petit four sized cakes and muffins. The dining room was very smart and we benefitted from views out onto woods. All in all it was a very relaxed and delicious afternoon tea.

We went with a Groupon voucher for a 3-course Christmas lunch for two people. There was a cracker for each person. There was no food choice or other option at all. The starter was tomato soup with a roll. The main course was turkey, with roast potatoes, a few cubes of mixed vegetables, a slice of stuffing and a little gravy. Dessert was a small cheesecake with a small spiral chocolate. That was it - no option of any other dish, apart from the vegetarian one. Table drink and coffee afterwards.
Well, this was the Hilton Hotel, not a small petite hotel ! Was this the best they could offer ? The head chef and management should hang their heads in shame !

This was a special lunch deal and as such good value. There was no choice of meal but the tomato soup was tasty and hot, the Christmas dinner was not particularly special and obviously catering type food with turkey and stuffing and only a few vegetables. The sweet was a small cheesecake. Unfortunately when we went it was nearly empty and so no atmosphere. It is difficult to judge this restaurant based on this meal but the service was good and the restaurant pleasant.

Really nice receptionist that confirmed my booking for afternoon tea. We had a nine eat baby shower and the service was ok but could have been better and was in a rush for us to go. Would of liked more tea and was told we can go and sit in the seating area. If I known they were rushing to get us of the table to do dinner I would of booked an earlier spot. Sandwich was crusing over and the scones were rock cakes drinks we had to keep calling people over.
