Took a friend for afternoon tea as a birthday treat. Staff were courteous, reserved table in a lovely position to people watch whilst we chatted and the afternoon tea was excellent value for money.

A classically elegant eatery inside the Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Book Room Restaurant treats diners to modern British dishes made with the freshest ingredients. Traditional afternoon teas are a popular choice here, with the plush furnishings making this an ideal spot for leisurely meals.

Using local produce wherever possible, the Book Room Restaurant menu crafts an irresistible selection of both traditional and contemporary British flavours. To start, there are pan-fried scallops with fresh pear salad and raspberry vinaigrette, while mains include classics like sirloin steak with chunky chips, field mushroom, red cabbage and apple coleslaw. There are also vegetarian options such as wild mushroom and grilled artichoke fettuccine, and sides like buttered new potatoes with fine herbs, and steamed greens.

Inventive takes on classic desserts at Book Room Restaurant in Cambridge come beautifully presented, and include Cambridge chocolate burnt cream with honeycomb and lavender shortbread. Afternoon teas are served with finger sandwiches, fresh scones with jam and clotted cream, as well as loose leaf teas and even prosecco.

Also offering special children's menus, Book Room Restaurant is a wonderful example of stylish yet approachable British dining. Cambridge Rail Station is 7 minutes' drive away.

The afternoon tea was for my husbands birthday. Wonderful selection of savoury and sweet snacks and the chef did a special plate of cheesecake and fruit beautifully decorated for his birthday. Would recommend to others. Staff were attentive but not always standing at your shoulder and polite. Lovely afternoon.

First time having afternoon tea at the Hilton hotel in Cambridge. The tea was very tasty and the food was amazing, down to the lovely smoked salmon sandwiches, to the crispy macaroons.

The Hilton hotel itself was an amazing place to have afternoon tea as the atmosphere and service was amazing.

Would definitely recommend to a friend.

This was a disappointing and pretty dreadful experience. Although I mentioned I had booked, no table was set up for us and we were left waiting for quite some time before being dealt with. When the food came it was really poor. The sandwiches were curling up at the edges, were far too large and on horrible shop bought bread. The fillings were bad and unsuitable for my children having mustard and coronation chicken in them. Most of the sandwiches were cheap egg mayonnaise. The smoked salmon blinis had unpleasant salmon that hadn't been trimmed. When I asked what kind of scones they were the waitress didn't kow - my assumption was proved right - they were all cheese because 'they had run out of' plain ones yet they hadn't yols me and still put out jam and cream!! As i said we had booked in advance. The pastries were all bought in with hard pastry and pretty inedible. When I complained I was dealt with professionally and the meal was discounted. However as my mother's 80th birthday treat it was awful - never again.
