Friendly service and a simple but well prepared menu. The food was delicious. The only slight quibble was that it was very salty, which is probably not ideal for pre-show dining as we were both incredibly thirsty throughout the show!

A funky industrial space inside the iconic Barbican Centre, Bonfire specialises in burgers, rotisserie chicken and all manner of U.S. comfort foods. Outside there is a huge terrace space overlooking the mini lake, perfect for an evening cocktail.

The Bonfire menu really packs in a great selection of flame-grilled treats. On the burger side, there is the classic cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce option, or diners can choose patties packed with truffle mayo, BBQ pulled pork and green chillies, or even a vegetarian choice of portobello mushroom, grilled halloumi and smoked paprika. There is spit-roast chicken from the rotisserie, and sides like fries topped with blue cheese.

Desserts at Bonfire restaurant at the Barbican are just as indulgent – there is salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, and even gluten-free options like white chocolate cheesecake. On the drink menu, there are rich milkshakes, a choice of craft beers, and cocktails like classic mojitos and negronis.

Bonfire in London is 5 minutes' walk from Barbican Tube Station.

My wife enjoyed it more than I did. I had the smokie hamburger, which was just an average hamburger. I also had a kit kat shake, which I thought tasted unusual. My wife had a cobb salad with the creamy garlic dressing and loved it. She also had the crumble and loved it. So I'll give it a 4 star because there were good items on the menu, I just picked poorly.

Disappointing, steak was nearly cold and not cooked medium, though it was taken back reheated. Fries were very salty.
    Staff were friendly and helpful.

Very good experience for a restaurant in this category - a great choice for a pre-concert pr theatre meal at the Barbican. It's American grill style food however and quite limited in terms of menu so bear that in mind. Excellent chicken (we shared a whole one between 3) and the sweet potato chi[s were to die for. The service also was incredibly friendly and all round it was a really satisfying and pleasurable experience.
