Excellent, just what we wanted, pre-concert early dinner, tasty reliable food, rapid and helpful service, nice atmosphere, table at 1815, done and dusted by 1920. Two bonfire burgers, green salad, beetroot salad, two glasses Merlot, crumble and cheesecake. We'll come again! ??

A funky industrial space inside the iconic Barbican Centre, Bonfire specialises in burgers, rotisserie chicken and all manner of U.S. comfort foods. Outside there is a huge terrace space overlooking the mini lake, perfect for an evening cocktail.

The Bonfire menu really packs in a great selection of flame-grilled treats. On the burger side, there is the classic cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce option, or diners can choose patties packed with truffle mayo, BBQ pulled pork and green chillies, or even a vegetarian choice of portobello mushroom, grilled halloumi and smoked paprika. There is spit-roast chicken from the rotisserie, and sides like fries topped with blue cheese.

Desserts at Bonfire restaurant at the Barbican are just as indulgent – there is salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, and even gluten-free options like white chocolate cheesecake. On the drink menu, there are rich milkshakes, a choice of craft beers, and cocktails like classic mojitos and negronis.

Bonfire in London is 5 minutes' walk from Barbican Tube Station.

I had the Smokie burger and my partner had the open steak sandwich. Both tasted great but really could have benefited from being served on plates! What is this obsession with using boards - and too small ones at that? The restaurant inside was ragingly hot - way too hot to sit in, so we had to sit outside and keep swiping at the hungry pigeons who tried to steal our food.

    It was appalling!
There were 3 girls serving and they each individually were trying to do a good job but they had no idea of serving the customer making sure that all the table were covered - so we placed the order ourselves finally.
It was a busy night with lots of tables filled outside on the balcony and also tables inside but there were simply not enough staff.
We went and placed our order at the bar ourselves .
We proceeded to wait for over 50 minutes for the food ( fortunately we had ample time before our concert - but it was clear others did not!).
We had to chase up the food - it was sitting on the counter getting cold.
The kitchens are on full view - they are only having to produce beefburgers and chips - there appeared to be about 5 people in there if I recall correctly - but there was absolutely NO SYSTEM....and I have no idea why it all took so long!!

We later heard there was no Management when we spoke with the waitresses at the end.

the girls serving did the best they could and of course bear the brunt and I felt very sorry for them being in such a rotten job.

This is prime location - come on Barbican - if you want anyone to go there !
Was supposed to be a treat - a way to relax before the concert without having to eat elsewhere.... I will bring my sandwiches next time!!!!

How can a place like The Barbican allow this?
Pay some staff and run it properly.
It is not fair on anyone - most of all the waiters/waitresses - who were trying their best.

was very disappointed with our experience
the waitress never took our order down correctly and it was only when we asked how long we had to wait that we realised that our order had not been put into the kitchen
we thought the burghers were of a poor quality and they repeated on us right through the recital
    we will never come back

The staff were friendly and attentive the quality of the burger was good except for the caramelised onions which were leaden. The ketchup was thin and poor quality. I don't like receiving food on a piece of paper on top of a wooden board. What's wrong with china plates?
The gents toilet was dirty and smelly.
I had forgotten how dull and confusing the Barbican Centre is. The saving grace of 'Bonfire' is that it has windows onto the inner court space and is therefore less grim than the rest of the centre.

    Disappointing

Slow service. Forgotten order. Incorrect bill. Driest fries ever encountered.

Awful experience. Although we told the staff we were going to a concert and they assured us food would be ready in time, 5 minutes before the concert was due to start they still had no idea where the food was. When speaking with the manager to try and find out what was happening he was both rude and unhelpful. In the end we had to cancel our order to prevent being late for the concert. Will never go back.

Firstly, there was a display of Pinkster gin on the bar but yet they had none to sell. Also ordered Nachos but they didn't have any salsa and we changed the order but then the plain nachos arrived. Not as good as a previous visit here last year.

Initial impressions were spoiled by being seated very close to a very noisy group of young people who were drinking but not eating. We were re-seated, much better but the restaurant will always be noisy as there is no sound proofing at all. My hamburger was very tasty indeed but my wife's avocado salad was a little disappointing - mostly lettuce, very little avocado. Overall, you will enjoy this restaurant if you are less than 30 and choose a hamburger. Location perfect for the Barbican Centre.
