Wonderful friendly efficient service & delicious burgers
25 November 2016
A funky industrial space inside the iconic Barbican Centre, Bonfire specialises in burgers, rotisserie chicken and all manner of U.S. comfort foods. Outside there is a huge terrace space overlooking the mini lake, perfect for an evening cocktail.
The Bonfire menu really packs in a great selection of flame-grilled treats. On the burger side, there is the classic cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce option, or diners can choose patties packed with truffle mayo, BBQ pulled pork and green chillies, or even a vegetarian choice of portobello mushroom, grilled halloumi and smoked paprika. There is spit-roast chicken from the rotisserie, and sides like fries topped with blue cheese.
Desserts at Bonfire restaurant at the Barbican are just as indulgent – there is salted caramel brownie with vanilla bean ice cream, and even gluten-free options like white chocolate cheesecake. On the drink menu, there are rich milkshakes, a choice of craft beers, and cocktails like classic mojitos and negronis.
Bonfire in London is 5 minutes' walk from Barbican Tube Station.

We arrived late but they managed to accommodate us and served our food in double quick time knowing that we had to rush to get to a show. The food was good (burger and fries) and reasonably priced.

Bare tables; quirky serving dishes (what's wrong with plates?). Great chips. Menu choice restricted, but delicious. No starters or puds. Good service. In the Barbican, so very handy for a pre-performance meal

Staff great, food enjoyable but the music was too loud and dire choice. The atmosphere was fine without the music as people wanted to catch up pre theatre

Food was ok, but nothing to write home about. Sweet potato fries were underdone and some still crunchy. Place seemed to be terribly understaffed, with service very slow. Food intolerance was either brushed over or staff weren't aware of suitable menu items. Menu was different online as compared to the restaurant. Sorry to say we'll be going elsewhere next time we go to The Barbican.

Excellent service and delicious food. The burger and chicken that we ate were incredibly tasty.
Good atmosphere too in the restaurant. We would definitely dine here again. A simple menu is the key here.

Bonfire is in the Barbican Centre. This is where people go to see plays and hear concerts. These events have a fixed start time. We arrived at our booking time of 6.15, for a 7.15pm event start. Ordering was reasonably prompt, but apart from the arrival of the drinks there was then a complete lack of delivery of food. I urged the serving staff several times to speed things up, but apart from apologising they apparently weren't able overcome the inefficiencies of the kitchen. Our food finally arrived at 7.50, giving us ten minutes to eat and pay, before leaving to get into our seats by 7.15. This is totally unacceptable, and made a very poor and stressful start to an evening out. The party on the table next to us cancelled their order and left hungry.
When this outlet was a tapas and small plates restaurant in recent years, we used it regularly as it always guaranteed efficient service and made an relaxed start to the evening. I will not use Bonfire again, and will advise all my Barbican-going friends not to.

Service was appalling, food average and despite repeated requests for water, condiments and finally the dessert that had been ordered no one responded and multiple further requests had to be made.
No apologies offered, delays acknowledged.
How did this Restaurant come to be in the Barbican? Underwhelming on all counts
