The Dining Rooms, Worsley Park
Set in a stunning country park location, The Dining Room at Worsley Park offers relaxed yet stylish dining with a strong focus on local food from North West producers and suppliers. A quick trip out of the city centre and just a few minute’s drive from Junction 13 of the M60, the AA rosette-winning restaurant is easily accessible whether you’re coming from the city centre or from the suburbs.
The Dining Room’s forte is traditional British food with a modern feel. Executive Chef Sean Kelly and his team are committed to championing the region’s best food, and are constantly introducing new dishes to showcase what’s fresh and local. A split-level layout offers a choice of three dining areas, with a contemporary colour palette of lime greens and rich browns and oranges set against a pale background. The overall effect is of a calming and stylish space that succeeds in being both elegant and informal.
The starters menu regularly features a great selection of flavours and textures. Options might include venison carpaccio with pickled mushrooms, celeriac and watercress (£8.50), mackerel with black pudding, spring onion mash, red wine dressing (£7) or spiced chickpea ravioli with slow roasted tomatoes and shallot dressing (£7).
Main course dishes are equally enticing. Choose from dishes such as melt-in-the-mouth slow cooked beef ravioli with wild mushrooms and red wine sauce (£19), tender pork belly with glazed apple and cider reduction (£17), or a light and refreshing pea, broad bean and mint risotto with Parmesan crisps and hazelnut pesto (£15). There’s also a grill menu, which includes BBQ spiced monkfish (£19) and 10oz rib eye steak (£23) with a choice of peppercorn, red wine or Bearnaise sauces (£2.50)
When it comes to dessert, those with a sweet tooth may find it difficult to choose. A favourite is the Worsley sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce; other popular choices include lemon curd with strawberry meringues and strawberry mousse, and mango cheesecake with coconut mousse and lime sorbet (all £7). Cheese lovers will be happy too: The Dining Room was rated ‘Highly recommended’ in ‘Best British Cheeseboard 2012’. There’s a cheeseboard tasting platter of four local cheeses, two from Cheshire and two from Lancashire (£9); alternatively, you can select any three of the four cheeses (£7). Cheese is served with fruit loaf, chutney, oat cakes and grapes.
The Dining Room is part of the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel – which means not only is it perfect for both laid back lunches and leisurely dinners, it offers the opportunity to combine good food with time enjoying the hotel facilities. These include a championship golf course and a luxury spa with the full range of treatments.
