Tea 42, Manchester
Word is spreading fast about Tea 42, Manchester’ stylish new cafe bar and tea-room. Find out what all the fuss is about with our special Star Deal offering champagne afternoon tea for just £18.95 per person.
Tea 42 brings the great British tea drinking tradition bang up to date. No vintage china teacups here. Instead, you’ll find a beautiful contemporary interior of whitewashed walls, white leather chairs and white marble tables. The ceiling is supported by cast iron pillars, and raspberry pink accents add a touch of colour. Tea 42 serves a great range of lunches and snacks, but most of all, it serves a very special afternoon tea.
The Bookatable Star deal includes the full afternoon tea experience plus a glass of Louis Dornier champagne on arrival. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a few friends together and settle in for an afternoon of tasty treats and good gossip. And if anyone in your party is gluten intolerant, that’s no problem. At Tea 42, there’s a gluten-free version of everything.
As you’d expect, tea starts with a selection of sandwiches. If you see the sandwich element as something simply to be got through before you reach the cake, Tea 42 could just change your mind. Made with freshly-baked artisan breads and generous toppings, Tea 42’s gourmet open sandwiches are an impressive introduction to what follows. Next, of course, come scones. Home-made scones, infused with tea and warm from the oven, to be precise. Plus real Cornish clotted cream and hand-made jam. After the scones, it’s time for cake. The treats on your cake stand might include rose chocolate brownies, lemon drizzle polenta cake, Battenberg, macaroons – or any other delicacies from the chef’s selection of favourites, old and new. And if you can’t manage everything that’s offered, don’t worry. Tea 42 are happy to supply boxes for you to take home whatever’s left.
To accompany the sandwiches and cake, there’s a choice of 27 teas, blended exclusively for Tea 42. Drink as much as you like, with free refills of blends such as Princess Jasmine – a light and fragrant green China tea scented with delicate and soothing jasmine – and Tea 42’s own Darjeeling, grown in the foothills of the Himalayas, delicate yet astringent, with hints of almonds. If you take milk in your tea, you can choose from whole, skimmed or semi skimmed, lactofree, soya or almond.
Tea 42 is set on Manchester’s High Street, close to the Arndale Centre and on the edge of the Northern Quarter – perfect if you plan a visit as part of a shopping trip and easy to reach if you come in specially. The team claim their afternoon tea is the best in town – there’s only one way to find out!
