The weather outside might be icy cold, but there is nothing frosty about the gelateria and deli Gelupo! In a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it location in Archer Street in Soho, Gelupo provides a welcome haven from the hectic streets of central London.
With distressed floorboards and a pastel colour palette, Gelupo has a Mediterranean vibe that makes you feel a couple of degrees warmer the minute you walk through the door. A good thing too, as any visit should include a taste of their amazing ice-cream.
What sets Gelupo apart from other ice cream venues is the flavour. Made on the premises, the gelato and sorbets are created every day using the freshest ingredients, and even those with inexperienced taste buds (like myself), will be able to savour the explosions of flavour in every mouthful. Even after extensive tastings on the Amalfi Coast, I have never tasted a mint choc-chip as good as theirs. There is definitely a reason that Time Out named it number 1 of things to do in London during 2012!
If you can manage to tear yourself away from the counter – the back of the store is an emporium of tasty Italian treats, selling wine, salami, spices, cheese, oils and gift hampers.
So if you love ice-cream, and you’re in London, you would be doing yourself a disservice to not pay Gelupo a visit (and when you’re there, try the mint choc-chip; simply heavenly!).
