We at Bookatable by Michelin are of course driven by a desire to get out more, and share the joy of dining out. However, this luxury is not something we take for granted, and we recognise the important role the hospitality industry plays in tackling food waste, and promoting food education. So we decided we should do our bit, get involved, and get our hands dirty. Quite literally.
On Tuesday 21st March, our CEO Michel donned his finest apron, dusted off his chef hat, and took part in the CEO CookOff, where he was put through his paces by top chefs. The event saw The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and UKHarvest bring together the nation’s top chefs and business leaders, who worked together to prepare a banquet for hundreds of everyday heroes from schools and hospitals.
All the money raised goes to The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and UKHarvest, helping their vital work to improve food education and reduce food waste.
The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation
The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation is all about ensuring children have access to nutritious food. Through providing food education, lobbying governments, organising events and generally shouting about food issues, the Foundation aims to improve lives globally – when 41 million children under the age of 5 are overweight or obese, while another 159 million kids are too short for their age, the problem is clear.
UKHarvest are on a mission to eliminate hunger and food waste through the redistribution of surplus food. The charity collects surplus food from all types of businesses and delivers it to charities who are able to use it to help feed those in need. Their work allows vulnerable families and individuals across the UK to access fresh food, dry goods hampers, and pre-made meals.
