Feed Your Mind: London’s Best Museum Restaurants

Visiting a museum can be free, educational and most of all fun, with London boasting some fantastic museums to peruse.  Whether in London already, or travelling from afar to museum-hop, it is definitely worth indulging in an activity-packed day to enhance your outing.  Best of all, many of these museums have wonderful restaurants where you can indulge in some brain food!  So not only can you discover fascinating new facts and see historical masterpieces, you can eat well too.  Here are some of the best restaurants housed in London museums:

Portrait Restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery

The Portrait Restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery is one of London’s most desirable dining locations.  Perched at 92 feet above ground level, there are amazing views of London’s most famous landmarks.  Enjoy wonderfully crafted popular dishes and afternoon tea in the restaurant, or experience the exciting cocktail list and snack menu in the Portrait Bar.

Court Restaurant at the British Museum

Beneath the stunning curved glass roof of the British Museum, the Court Restaurant is dedicated to creating delicious European classics and Viennese-style specials.  After sauntering around the museum, the Court afternoon tea is a wonderful way to end the day, along with exceptional pastries by renowned Austrian chocolatier, Demel.

Rex Whistler Restaurant at the Tate Britain

The restaurant at the Tate Britain gets its moniker from the magnificent mural adorning its walls, which was painted by Rex Whistler himself.  Head chef, Paul Newbury, creates contemporary British menus, and on the first Friday of every month, offers the sublime treat of a special seasonal tasting menu.

Blueprint Cafe at the Design Museum

From beautiful and innovative design in the museum itself to the amazing views of Tower Bridge and Docklands seen from the restaurant, the entire Design Museum experience is a feast for the eyes.  In an elevated position above the museum, the Blueprint Cafe boasts a stunning glazed terrace, offering diners sparkling views across London whilst enjoying the seasonal European Blueprint menu.

Excellent. I like to spend hours in museums, so knowing which ones also have good cafes/restaurants is really useful.
