Cheshire’s renowned Alderley Edge Hotel now offers a choice of fine dining Modern British or relaxed brasserie retro. The Alderley restaurant has frequently been tipped as a Michelin star contender, and the new Brasserie is fast proving a success with village locals and visitors alike.
The Alderley Restaurant
With three AA rosettes and numerous local awards, the Alderley Restaurant is a well-established part of the Cheshire dining scene with a reputation for innovative Modern British fine dining,
The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. Rich creams and warm browns set off elaborate ironwork and original brick, and large windows offer views over the Cheshire plain.
There is a choice of menus on offer, giving the chefs ample scope to display their creativity. If you prefer a two or three course meal, you can choose from the a la carte, market (£34.50 for three courses) or vegetarian menus. If you like to try a wider variety of dishes, there is a six course tasting menu (£58.50) every evening.
Typical starter dishes include a delicate cauliflower espuma, with smoked cheese croutons giving contrast and crunch, and a richly-flavoured Goosnargh Duck seasoned with orange, confit duck, plum and anise, and watercress. Main courses feature dishes such as slow cooked rump of beef with ox cheek, smoked carrot and new season morels, and massalla roasted monkfish, shrimp and crayfish crumble, with verjus purée.
On the taster menu, you can experience treats such as the intriguing pork pie fritter with slow cooked belly and cheek, and apple and sweetcorn, or the fragrant truffle carpaccio of free range chicken, with truffle potato bon bons and asparagus.
The dessert menu displays an equally creative streak. Lighter options include apple granita with appletini mousse and crackle crystals, whilst signature dishes such as Cluizel chocolate with peanuts, 60% chocolate ganache, peanut and toffee, white chocolate, and caramel peanut ice cream promise a truly sensational finish to any meal.
The hotel has just this year opened the Brasserie, a bright, contemporary alternative to the fine dining Alderley restaurant. Here, you find retro recipes with a slightly modern twist. In the case of the prawn cocktail (£5.95), that means adding interest with crayfish and a touch of apple and cucumber. The scampi in a basket (£13.75) is partnered by monkfish, and the vanilla Arctic Roll (£4.95) comes accompanied by poached blueberries.
With its striking red, white and black decor, the Brasserie is perfect for those looking to enjoy the quality for which the Alderley is renowned, without any of the formality. Great for a lunch before striking out for a walk on the Edge, or for a relaxed evening meal after a stroll to admire the village’s handsome Victorian villas.
And the favourite snack so far? Champagne and chips (triple cooked, of course).
