1847 Vegetarian Bistro & Bar
The Bookatable Star Deal is the perfect way to discover Manchester-based 1847 Bistro’s tasty and imaginative vegetarian food. This month’s Star Deal gives you 3 courses and a glass of wine for just £20. It’s available at both the Manchester city centre and Chorlton 1847 Vegetarian Bistro restaurants.
Whichever 1847 Bistro you choose, you’ll find a warm and welcoming approach with a focus on great value and exceptional service. Where so many restaurants take the safe option with vegetarian dishes, offering traditional pastas and risottos, 1847 instead creates inventive menus that are attracting not only vegetarians but also meat eaters looking for something different. Head chef Wendy Swetnam enjoys working with seasonal ingredients and loves to experiment, so the menu changes regularly. All dishes are made fresh on-site daily.
Possible starters include dishes as varied as malt loaf with yoghurt curd, cress & pickles, and tempura autumn greens with sweet chilli sauce. Salads – such as watercress, orange and pecan – can be chosen as either starter or main course.
The main course menu is equally imaginative, with dishes such as the rosemary polenta with roasted squash, vine tomatoes and crispy fried sage, and mushroom and spinach strudel with red pepper sauce offering an appealing mix of tastes, colours and textures. The unusual beetroot and potato cake with poached eggs and horseradish hollandaise sauce is also proving a big hit.
With autumn sliding into winter, look out for 1847’s take on classic hot desserts, such as their baked Granny Smith apple with hot buttered rum and toasted oats. If you can’t resist ice cream no matter what the weather, 1847 Bistro offers heavenly home-made delights such as satsuma and chocolate ice cream with pistachio cookies.
Alongside the food, you’ll find a great selection of wines carefully chosen to complement the menu.
Both 1847 restaurants are fully approved by the Vegetarian Society and the Vegan Society, and there are always a number of gluten free options. Clear labelling on the menu leaves you in no doubt about what dishes fit which category.
The city centre 1847 Bistro is on the corner of Booth Street and Mosley Street, just opposite the Manchester Art Gallery and about 10 minutes’ walk from Manchester Piccadilly Rail Station. Chorlton’s 1847 is on Manchester Road opposite the leisure centre.
The Star Deal is available at lunchtime every day, and in the evenings from Sunday until Thursday. The Chorlton restaurant is closed on Tuesdays.
The deal ends on the 30th November, so get your booking in now to make sure you don’t miss out. You can book online here, and then pay on the day.
