Dating back to the 16th-century, Black Boys Inn is a beautifully traditional escape, filled with intimate nooks and crannies, oak beams and a wood-burning stove. Set close to the River Thames, it is dog-friendly, and the al fresco seating area has stunning views out over the countryside.

Classic British flavours with touches from around the globe feature on the Black Boys Inn menu. Baked camembert with warm rustic bread and cranberry chutney makes a perfect sharing starter, while pan-fried scallops with crispy pancetta and mango, lime and chilli salsa is an inventive combination of flavours. Traditional favourites on the menu include pie of the day, fish and chips with mushy peas, and the irresistible grilled venison with rosti potatoes and a red wine and raspberry sauce. There is also a grill menu of 28-day aged steaks with all the trimmings.

The sommelier at Black Boys Inn Henley has crafted a superb wine list of new and old world vintages, and the bar serves up a selection of international beers and ales, as well as a local bitter.

    Some work needed to improve over all service , It is early days for the owners and it must be a difficult learning curve

    On arrival at 12:30pm the restaurant was very quiet with just one other couple dining. On being seated the waiter brought us our glasses of prosecco and handed the menu's to us. The menu choice was very limited three starters, four main courses and three desserts. The waiter informed us the Dover Sole had been replaced with Plaice. We decide first to have the homemade vegetable soup with homemade bread and butter. For mains we would have loin of pork only to be told the pork wasn't available, the other couple had ordered the last two. So we decided instead on the plaice and a homemade pie. The soup arrived but without the bread and after a couple of minutes we called the waiter in case he had forgotten. He informed us the chef didn't make any bread so there wasn't and any he would see what he could do. After a few more minutes we had almost finished our soup he brought three slices of toasted bread with butter. He offered us a complimentary drink my wife had a glass of red and I had a small lager. We finished with desert and left not bothering with coffee. During our meal the other couple at the nearby table left and remarked as they passed they wouldn't be coming back again. We were then the only diners left and began to see why.
    Although this was a deal the food was good and it was served hot but there was just nothing special about it we could have had the same at home overall it was poor value. The waiter was very pleasant but there was nothing much he could do he was very apologetic. With only us and one other couple dining and with a small menu what they were doing in the kitchen that they didn't have enough food or the time to bake the bread?

    Worst meal we've had in years. Everything was wrong - for our starters they provided two thick white bread slices and when we asked which dish they were meant for, they did not know! My wife's salmon in vodka was accompanied by a cold pancake which was inedible. My pate starter came with twirls of Melba toast which broke apart into small pieces when trying spread the pate/terrine. Mains very average, more like home cooking rather than restaurant dining. Overall poor quality and certainly not value for money.

    Excellent service and lovely food, complementary glass of prosecco too which was a nice way to finish! Would definitely go back and recommend.

    Throuoghly enjoyed a Valentines meal with my Girlfriend. Starter and Main Course were excellent. Pleasant atmosphere. Will go again as two courses for £16.99 was great value.
