Bird of Smithfield is situated in a 5-storey Georgian townhouse complete with rooftop terrace. Sitting alongside London’s only functioning meat market, the abundance of fresh, local meat is far from surprising.

From head chef Tommy Boland, the Bird of Smithfield menu offers a delicious fusion of British gastronomy with French cooking influences. Try starters like Cornish mackerel with oyster, radish and pickled cucumber, followed by roasted turbot with celeriac purée with winter greens, charred potatoes, and hazelnut and black truffle pesto. Desserts include pistachio soufflé with bitter chocolate ice cream.

The dining room is stylishly decked out in tweed and herringbone fabrics, whilst the lounge bar, basement cocktail bar and roof terrace are equally well groomed. Regular food & drinks pop ups are also held at Bird of Smithfield.

Occupying an historic location, Bird of Smithfield is a 5-minute walk from Farringdon and Barbican train stations.

Thank you for a really enjoyable experience. Each course was fresh, tasted fantastic and was beautifully presented. The standard of food was of a very high level and I think it would be impossible to get a better meal anywhere.

My sister and I booked the a table fairly last minute based on recommendations on the website. We had the special three course menu which was absolutely delicious and well worth the money. We were greater by name upon arriving in the downstairs bar then had a very friendly and helpful waitress who explained the dishes. We both chose different dishes from the set menu and all the food was absolutely fantastic. The prosecco was very good quality so we ordered a bottle. We were able to take our time and enjoy the food and room in our own time without feeling rushed. All in all a great evening and a wonderful restaurant that we would both highly recommend.

Great food enjoyed the cheese plate for pudding. Service was a bit slow at times considering the restaurant was not full.

Great food and pleasant staff. I had booked a table for 18.00 and whilst on the rooftop, I didn't realise the time of my booking had passed. I asked if the reservation could be pushed back by 1.5 hour and with no fuss or attitude, this was done. The waitresses were also good at explaining dishes and discreet as opposed of pressurising you to order or pay. As a result, I will come back and recommend.

We ate from the set menu accompanied by the recommended wines with each course. Chef agreed to substitute the shellfish course for something more appropriate for us which was a big plus. Food fresh creative and tasty - beautifully presented. We had a lovely experience and enjoyed conversations with the staff who were incredibly friendly. Just a shame that as it was a Saturday night and this is in Smithfield it was rather quiet and lacked the potential buzz had it been full. Wonder what it's like mid week!
