Bird of Smithfield is situated in a converted Georgian townhouse complete with rooftop terrace. Sitting alongside London’s only functioning meat market, the abundance of fresh, local meat is far from surprising.

The Bird of Smithfield menu offers traditional British dishes with modern twists. Try Grilled Wye Valley asparagus with leeks, oyster mushrooms, poached egg, garlic and walnut pesto, or deep-fried cod with triple-cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Meatier options come in the form of rump of Scotch beef with braised short rib and smoked bone marrow, or duck breast pie with sour cherry and crispy skin.

The dining room is stylishly decked out in tweed and herringbone fabrics, whilst the lounge bar, basement cocktail bar and roof terrace are equally well groomed. Regular food & drinks pop ups are also held at Bird of Smithfield.

Occupying an historic location, Bird of Smithfield is a 5-minute walk from Farringdon and Barbican train stations.

Absolutely lovely restaurant, went here with my boyfriend on a saturday night - wasn't too busy but really well laid out so you didn't feel too close to other tables and the interior really well decorated, simple and minimalist with an intimate, cosy feel. Great service our waitress was lovely, very friendly but not O.TT. Great old fashioned cocktails and good decent priced wine list. The food was delicious - not too pretentious, clean flavors, great produce and presented well. Would dedinetly come again, probably not with a group of friends unless for a civilized, special occasion but definitely for a romantic meal.

Lovely restaurant and ambiance but food was just ok. Duck was tough, fish was over-battered.

Overall the service was excellent. I was not impressed with the main course (lamb). The presentation was poor and the actual dish was not very appetizing. I don't particularly like my main course served in a soup bowl. It looked a mess.

The starter and wine were excellent.

We had a cocktail on the roof terrace which was a lovely start to our evening . You need to get there early to get a table and the choice of cocktails is limited but unusual. We had the 3 courses for £20 menu which was lovely. The spiced butternut squash soup was delicious and the shepherd's pie exceptional. They made a special effort to mark our anniversary which we were celebrating and the service was extremely good.
