Located in the iconic Michelin House, Bibendum is renowned for blending classic French dishes with traditional British touches. Opened by Sir Terence Conran in 1987, it is no surprise that the décor is as striking as the menu, with stained-glass windows and elegant furnishings adding to the chic atmosphere. Bibendum has long been a staple of the Chelsea restaurant scene, and as Fay Maschler has pointed out, ‘its wider influence on London dining is still being felt.’

Simple yet sophisticated, the Bibendum menu features French classics such as fillet steak au poivre alongside more contemporary offerings including breast of duck with courgette, paprika and mint compote.

With over 800 wines to choose from, the Bibendum restaurant boasts an unrivalled wine menu, carefully chosen by its experienced sommeliers. Guests can also choose to dine in the glamour of the main restaurant or the relaxed yet luxurious oyster bar, as well as picking up a coffee and fresh seafood at the crustacea stall.

A 5-minute walk from South Kensington Tube Station, Bibendum in London reflects its elegant surroundings and offers guests a unique blend of French opulence, British tradition and quality produce.

Our experience last Saturday night was a bit disappointing. The architecture and the decor are marvelous -- from old photographs of the Michelin workers and advertisements to the stained glass windows. Most of the food was excellent -- most of our party had veal or beefsteak but I had a skate which was either not fresh or was not cooked properly (I could not eat it). The real disappointment was the lackadaisical attitude -- the menu (and the website) states there are Set Menu items at Lunch and at Dinner until 7:30 pm but when we asked about them we were told, "not tonight" - no other explanation. Instead we were obliged to order a la carte which significantly increases the final bill... The staff are friendly but need more training in serving at table -- we were surprised twice by attempts to remove dishes before everyone was finished. In sum, great setting but the service, food and price do not rise to that awesome level.

Presented with dessert menú after 15 minutes we arrived.
    Twice asks for ordering.
Sloppy familiarity of very young trainee.
    Very bad lamb.
Used to be a good restaurant (2008).
    Not anymore.
    Avoid it.

Starters and entres were very good, but service was extraordinary slow and inattentive. More than one table had to send out signals for assistance, meanwhile staff had gathered in a group. I would not return to Bibendum.

I've been to Bibendum quote a few times over the years and it's always a treat. The room is so spacious and relaxing. We were six so had a lovely table and were not crowded by neighbouring tables. The menu is on the classic side but everyone was very happy as lots of choices. We had two bottles of wine recommended from the house list and three courses. About £85 each including tax and service.

Extremely pleased. Food and service were exceptional as in the past. As meeting business colleagues for discussions and pleasantries and who also traveled international, I booked a couple of weeks in advance and it was great to be received like a regular patron.
