On the picturesque St Helen’s Square, Bettys York is an elegant café serving lunch, dinner and afternoon teas. Inspired by the founder’s experience on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary, the café is decked out in wood panelling, with large curved windows and ornate mirrors.

Afternoon tea at Bettys York involves a vast selection of teas, served with sweet and savoury delights. Classic blends join exotic black, green and white teas, as well as herbal blends on the lengthy tea menu. Traditional fresh sandwiches are followed by freshly baked sultana scones with strawberry preserve and Yorkshire clotted cream, as well as a selection of handmade cakes.

Add a touch of indulgence to afternoon tea with a glass of champagne, or sample the wide choice of specialty coffees, world wines, and local ales. Bettys also hosts regular events and live music, making it a lively venue day and night.

Bettys York is a 9-minute walk from York Train Station.

Great service and great food, the pianist made it even more special

We had afternoon tea upstairs and really enjoyed the experience. The tea was lovely and the food was nice. We felt that the wait for the food was a little too long and the toilet facilities weren't as good as we'd anticipated. But overall, it was a treat which we're considering booking to have again.

Lovely room with a great atmosphere, enhanced by the live piano music.
Had booked a Lady Betty afternoon tea for myself and two daughters.
The savoury selection was excellent and the ability to be able to order more sandwiches a very nice touch.
Beautiful scones, jam and cream, cakes were lovely.
There is also a great variety of teas to choose from. The only negative was that our tea selection was a while coming and we had to remind the waitress.

We had lady Betty's afternoon tea with champagne , it was very nice , but I feel the £80 we paid was over priced , even though I would recommend it , I would advise people to queue and pay £20 for a very similar afternoon tea , with out the staff dressed up and a pianist playing , over all the afternoon tea was over priced and only being allowed an hour an half for your table I felt I was clock watching , but the experience was very nice

We had Lady Betty's afternoon tea and it was a delight. The service was exceptional and the food delicious. A real treat . We booked the table a few days before so we didn't have to wait for a table in the main restaurant.

Minor gripe for those who don't eat fish - first two items are fish! Flavours and textures in all savouries were balanced and delicious. Only managed one cake each due to a fullness problem, but would have liked to see a mini fondant fancy in the selection, but that's because I associate them strongly with the Betty's name.

The service was excellent, all staff friendly and professional. I liked that the tables weren't crammed in so there was no sense of intrusion with other diners. Tea and hot water were not offered again, had to ask for replacement as tea/water were cold.

I believe you only allow 1.5 hours for the experience which I found short for the volume of food and conversation, but although we overstayed we were not hurried.

Very pleasant afternoon. Room was not overcrowded and the ambience created by the pianist was wonderful. Staff were attentive throughout. Would come again.
