The whole dining was absolutely wonderful

Bettys Harrogate has been offering afternoon teas, and a blend of British and Swiss cuisine since 1919. The original Bettys Café, the restaurant overlooks the floral landscapes of The Stray outside.
Afternoon teas at Betty Harrogate include a luxurious selection of sandwiches, cakes, patisseries and teas. Indulge in a traditional cream tea with scones and Yorkshire clotted cream, treat yourself to a champagne afternoon tea, or choose from the lavish cake trolley.
Combining the hearty influences of Swiss and Yorkshire cuisines, the Bettys menu places bacon and raclette rosti and swiss alpine macaroni alongside classics like fish and chips and slow-cooked steak pie. More Mediterranean influences also feature, including butternut squash tortelloni in sage butter with chestnut mushrooms, fresh spinach and toasted hazelnuts. For a lighter dish, try one of the speciality sandwiches, salads and omelettes.
In the centre of the picturesque North Yorkshire spa town, Bettys Harrogate is a 10-minute walk from Harrogate Train Station.

Very attentive staff, lovely food and great ambience. We especially loved the piano playing which was just right. Sadly my mum will probably not manage the steps to the Imperial room again as there is no stair lift so this may have been her last birthday Bettys.

Generally it was a lovely experience. The food, atmosphere, piano, setting was great. Sadly we found our waitress a little brusk. After being asked to let her know if there was anything we didn't like on the Lady Bettys Afternoon Tea, when we asked if we could swop the battenburg for extra of something else and just have sultana scones not lavender due to a sensitivity of one of the party, she stiffly said, sorry everything is made specifically each day for the numbers booked in. I pointed out that I had already emailed about the scones and was told it wouldn't be a problem and just to mention it on the day, to which she responded, ok I will speak to the kitchen. Why ask if there's something you don't like if everything's made to the numbers coming! Unfortunately, immediately we were left with a feeling that we were being a little awkward which took the edge off the special occasion we were there for. She didn't smile once and to be honest, despite nothing wrong with the service of the food to the table, her demeanour slightly spoiled the experience. We were told we could sample different teas, but only at 75 min into the 90 min long afternoon tea, was there an opportunity to ask for more tea (from one of the restaurant supervisors), by which time the tea and hot water we had originally been given had gone cold. We never saw our waitress again after she brought the food, until she came to take payment of the bill!
Our table was wobbly which was a little annoying, but we didn't feel we could say anything as we already felt a little uncomfortable daring to mention a dislike, despite being asked to mention any dislikes!!
We enjoyed all the food, particularly the sandwiches and scones. It was nice that the sandwiches were in different breads. Presentation was beautiful.
So overall we had a lovely time, we just wished we'd had a different waitress, as she sadly didn't enhance our experience, but rather detracted from it, otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Beautiful setting in The Imperial Room . Friendly staff. Elegant China and silver cake stand. We had The Lady Betty Afternoon Tea which started with some delicious savoury dishes. Sandwiches were varied and replenished. Scones were very fresh and a good size. I love the variety of little cakes.Enjoyed the piano playing while we dined.
