Awarded a Michelin star, Benares brings the excitement and vibrancy of Indian cuisine to a chic, elegant setting in Mayfair, central London. The menu of bold spices and superb textures at Benares is designed by Atul Kochhar, and has won widespread acclaim from the Evening Standard and BBC Good Food Magazine.

The Indian subcontinent is fully explored in the Benares menu. All lamb and chicken is Halal, and many complementing exotic ingredients are encompassed, ranging from spice rubbed Romney Marsh lamb cannon with white aubergine purée and artichoke Fritters, to hearty vegetarian options like pea and lentil cakes with warm cauliflower purée and asparagus stir-fry. A number of dining options are available at this Atul Kochhar restaurant, from the a la carte menu, to Benares sharing platters and pre-theatre set menus.

A cooling but bold dessert menu is served at Benares restaurant, with rose bhapa doi, hibiscus sorbet and fresh raspberries a popular choice. An extensive wine list is also available, with expert recommendations by a sommelier to accompany key dishes. An inventive, tantalising cocktail menu is showcased at Benares in London, with options like the trademark zingy passion fruit chutney martini.

Combining vibrancy and elegant restraint, Benares in Mayfair offers diners Chef’s Table seating with full views of the kitchen. Private dining is also available with seating for up to 34 people. Green Park Tube Station is a 5-minute walk from Benares.

We came to the restaurant for my husbands birthday. The service was exceptional, the food unfortunately didn't have the wow factor (we had the tasting menu) the room that we ate in was separate from the main eating area. We felt slightly disappointed and felt we could have eaten better and paid half the price!

We visited Benares for a very special 50th Birthday and we were not disappointed, the staff were incredibly attentive, welcoming and efficient. The service was perfect, not intrusive but efficient and helpful. We had a lovely table in the corner which was quiet but visual for the rest of the restaurant. The food was an incredible experience, we had a taster vegetarian menu and it did not disappoint, so many wonderful flavours and sensations. They brought us a brownie with a candle in and wrote on the plate happy 50th Birthday, and the signed menu was a very lovely touch. My wife was blown away by the experience.

Food was very nice except I had a theatre booked (2hrs after seating) to go to for our anniversary (which I had added to booking comments) and felt let down by the service. The staff were asked repeatedly for drinks (also ended up pouring own drinks and waiting 15 mins to get any of the staffs attention to replace the empty Bottle of water and empty ice bucket. It took another 15 minutes to ask for a dessert menu (from 3 different members of staff including one manager) then another 15 minutes and still no menu so had to leave as would have been late for the theatre. I asked for the bill and waited another 15 minutes and still no bill so had to get up and walk to staff standing talking at till to pay (very disappointing as this was supposed to be a special day and had Benares recommended). So in all we wasted at least an hour just for service from staff which didn't materialise until we were leaving and then a manager apologised and gave us recipe book and a Happy Anniversary dessert (which was a very pleasant surprise for my wife) but we had to eat it on the chairs near the exit as we had already left the restaurant.

Great food AND great service. We also had the 2 course special for £29, so for a Michelin Star Restaurant, what great value. My partner would strongly recommend the Prawn Curry, best prawns ever she said! She also liked a Chutney Cocktail and being a tee total I loved the Berry Boost! Fantastic all round experience, Thank you Benares!

Food excellent, staff charming, the area my wife & I were seated was basic to say the least, overall experience a little spoilt by surroundings, would reconsider return visit, although the excellent cuisine would justify perhaps a second experience in the hope that we were seated in the main restaurant rather than a corridor of black painted walls !!!

Had the taster menu and it was amazing .. best Indian food we have experienced .. service excellent .. only niggle was the £41.00 service charge included in the bill would have tipped anyway but maybe not quite as much ..

We had the tasting menu. The food was imaginative, gorgeous and well served. Every dish was excellent and has its own characteristics. In particular, the chicken tandoori pie was unique. All tastes well harmonized with sauces and dips. Must go place for modern Indian food.
