Read the latest blog post on Bel Canto Bel Canto Restaurant combines French fine dining with the splendour of the opera. Performing alongside a talented pianist, the team of flamboyant and lively waiting staff are professionally trained opera singers.

Next to stunning Hyde Park, Bel Canto restaurant offers an elegantly decorated dining room, and decadent dishes. To start, there’s classic foie gras with brioche and fig chutney, or the shallots tatin covered with feta cheese. Main courses at Bel Canto Lancaster Gate offer an array of rich flavours, like wild mushroom risotto with shaved parmesan, or succulent, prune-stuffed chicken wrapped in pancetta.

Bel Canto’s wine list offers a well-chosen variety, from light and crisp ‘soprano’ whites, to heavier, ‘bariton’ reds. The desserts at Bel Canto London are great for a sweet tooth, with melting chocolate fondant, or the tangy apple tart with blackcurrant sorbet.

Within an impressive building just 2 minutes’ walk from Lancaster Gate Tube Station, Bel Canto Restaurant offers sumptuous French cuisine and a vibrant taste of the opera.

Lovely food, attentive service along with intermittent entertainment sung by promising students of opera.

Upon arrival, my name was already listed, so I was seated quickly. Unfortunately my seat was close to the entrance for the chefs and the waiting staff so I had to put up with knocks and bumps from passers by. Shortly afterwards, a waitress came and poured me an alcoholic drink, which I was disappointed with because I thought the restaurant staff were made aware of my request for a non-alcoholic drink but they obviously weren't. She offered me an orange juice instead that I happily accepted.

My food order and arrival of first two courses was prompt. The Opera Salad was generously-portioned for a starter and the sun-dried tomatoes, the Parmesan slices and the toasted pine nuts made it flavoursome. The Chicken Chasseur looked surprising because it consisted of chicken breast on a bed of mash accompanied with a few button mushrooms, a few pancetta cubes and one or two baby onions, all in a pool of tarragon jus, which was the only part of the main I didn't like but everything else was exceptional - the chicken stayed hot throughout.

By the time I had finished my first two courses, the service began to slow down. It took a little while to be offered a dessert (I guess it was due to allowing my food to go down) but when the waitress offered me one, I told her I wanted sorbet but she informed me there wasn't any, much to my disappointment. Instead she recommended the chocolate fondant, which again I happily accepted. My dessert took about half an hour to arrive and just as another member of restaurant staff asked me if everything was okay and I told him the dessert was taking a while to arrive, it did and he explained there was a delay with them being served but I couldn't understand why. The chocolate fondant was gorgeous with its melting middle but I was unsure about the ice cream flavour. The bill took quite some time to arrive as well.

The opera singing was beautiful but it was sometimes too loud for my sensitive hearing.

    Overall rating: 3/5.

Despite a small problem with ovens in the kitchen the food was very good. The service was also very good and the entertainment excellent. It was certainly a unique experience and although a little pricy a great evening out.

The whole experience was fantastic, we cannot fault it in anyway. The singing was superb, and the food was excellent too.
