Enjoy AA Rosette-awarded dining at Bartley Lodge Hotel, a secluded woodland hideaway in the New Forest. Refined British cuisine is served in the hotel’s sophisticated Crystal Restaurant.

Signature dishes on the Bartley Lodge menu range from a cod brandade, with spiced puy lentils and cauliflower beignets, to a contemporary twist on the British ham hock, served with pea puree and herb-crusted hen’s egg. Traditional British mains like ale-battered fish and chips and honey-glazed ham can be followed by a warm poached pear with mulled-wine sorbet, whilst cheeses are a proud local selection featuring an exciting garlic and nettle option.

A former library, the elegant Bartley Lodge restaurant in Lyndhurst welcomes diners with toasty open fires in winter and open French doors in summer, which lead out into the hotel’s beautiful gardens. Breakfast can be taken in style with the addition of a glass of chilled champagne.

    The afternoon tea was very nice, plenty of tea and good service. The conservatory was a bit hot in the sun, otherwise perfect.

    Lovely setting and hotel but afternoon tea wasn't as good as I've had elsewhere. No tea menu offered, and food not as good as similar hotels or tea shops

    Afternoon tea: Hotel very nice restaurant recently decorated pleasure to eat there. Sandwiches 1st class cakes a bit disappointing - scones not what I expected at all. 1/4 of the size of a normal scone but we did have 2 halves a bit crunchy but nice. Would have liked to be asked if we wanted more tea. 1 tea was gluton free and my friend said it was all lovely - especially the bread. For £11.25 the tea was o.k but I personally would not go back again especially if it was dearer. It is a shame as it is a lovely hotel and setting -afternoon tea is very popular and competitive.

    Had a lovely festive afternoon tea yesterday, the service was exemplary and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was perfect and more than enough for two. Would highly recommend a visit

    Very nice meal, good service. We used to come to Bartley Lodge many years ago and loved it. Thought we would try it again now for our 46th wedding anniversary dinner. Thought the conservatory was a little stark, but will definitely be back again.

    We got married at Bartley Lodge 12 years ago and thought we celebrate our anniversary here. We were one of 3 tables so not much atmosphere. We booked the 3 courses for £20 menu but were only offered a la carte, it was too embarrasing to say anything as everyone could hear eachothers conversations. We sat in the conservatory overlooking the gardens which because it was nightime you could not see ( some lighting would help) service and food were very good. In all what was supposed to be a nice romantic celebratory meal was over and done with in about 1 hour due to the attentive service caused by lack of diners ??

    Poor experience. We love the location, we got married there 15 years ago and this was an anniversary dinner, however the food was positively below par. Starters were OK although my pigeon breast still had sinew in it which made it tough to cut and eat. Worst part was my main, the halibut was unseasoned, dry and over cooked, and what was supposed to be a mussel broth with broad beans, tender stem broccoli and sorrel, was a watery tasteless broth with sweetcorn, peas, peppers, normal broccoli florets and red onion with a few mussels, no sign of a broad bean, tender stem broccoli or sorrel ! I sent it back and was told the fish was supposed to be cooked that way and that the chef would cook it same way if he did it again. I therefore opted for battered fish and chips instead which was just OK. On the table next to us was a couple who were staying at the hotel, one of them had the halibut the previous night and ordered again only to be disappointed, it looked nothing like mine had and they said it was "definitely not the same or as good as last night". My wife's main was also only OK, a sirloin steak with a large mushroom and a grilled (not confit as per the menu) tomato. That all said, credit must go to the head waiter Tomaz who dealt with my complaint very well and went out of his way to make sure we had a complimentary drink. I will put the evening down to the chef having a bad night or they had a replacement chef who couldn't be bothered that night. Based on this I couldn't recommend this restaurant.
