Since its opening, I have been celebrating special occasions in this restaurant. The amazing view on St Paul's cathedral, the great service and the delicious food are the reasons I always come back.

Founded by Jamie Oliver, Barbecoa is all about elemental fire-based cooking in a modern context.     Dined here with my wife as a Christmas treat tonight (the Wednesday before Christmas).

    The meal started well with both the calamari and the prawns. My wife ordered a Boulevard Spritz cocktail and a glass of wine with the meal.
    Unfortunately the evening went downhill rapidly from there. We both ordered fillet steak (with bone marrow) plus broccoli and creamed greens. The vegetables turned up cold, the steaks (blue and rare) - one barely warm the other cold, bone marrow cold. I did wonder whether the whole meal had sat around waiting. They were sent back, with several apologies from waiters and management and new meals were served. This time the meals were served considerably warmer - better but compared to other steak establishments not perfect.

    We declined dessert and coffee.

    A trip to the restrooms - ghastly - I have been in cleaner and better smelling public conveniences. The stench was overpowering from outside - before even entering!
    Now the restaurant was full and it was Christmas so perhaps a higher number of clients than usual - then Barbecoa, I suggest you clean them more often in times of high demand. I'm told the ladies wasn't much better.

    The manager apologised, gave me his card and said be sure to email him next time and he will ensure I get a good table. This made a number of assertions: 1. I want to go back 2. That I didn't have a good table this time!

    I'm afraid this was too little too late. Perhaps one free main for the inconvenience, and the wait - and I might have been more forgiving.

    To be honest I have had great steaks in Goodmans, Hawksmoor and several Gaucho's in and around the city (Broiadgate, Tower Bridge) a number of times (rare and blue). It's a pity I didn't choose one of those for our special meal.

    So £140+ for 1 cocktail, 1 glass wine, 2 starters, 2 steaks with 2 sides. No dessert, no coffee and not even a whole bottle of wine. The prices are easily seen on the website so no problem there - just a pity that for a premium price

    I thought Barbecoa was OK but not as good as I expected for the price (it's expensive). One of the starters was actually sent back. Its signature meat dishes were better including a very good chateaubriand but my porterhouse was average.

    Great food & cocktails and lovely service. Fantastic view of St Pauls from our table. Particularly enjoyed the truffle butter with my steak :-)

    Loved dining here. Really nice atmosphere with a great view of St. Paul's. Staff were really attentive and friendly without being too in your face. Food was delicious. However the beef rib was a lot smaller than expected considering the price.
    I would definitely dine here again though.

    Distinctly average experience I'm afraid, the calamari starter consisted of 5 tiny pieces and was predominantly made up of mint. My medium Rib-Eye was rare, the fat wasn't rendered and most of it was inedible as the fat was uncooked.

    This was my second visit to barbecoa. My wife and I ate here as part of the October London restaurant month menu @£50 each. The welcome drink had a very strange taste. The naan was ok. The duck has a nice flavour and was probably my favourite part of the meal. The steak was a cheap cut and very disappointing. We added Mac and cheese and spinach sides. These were nice. The desert I expected to be warm but it wasn't. One glass of red wine each plus service and the bill was £146.
    It's not cheap but it is steak of course. I do not want to rush back. This was a treat to ourselves and we were disappointed. The courses were rushed through and we were hoping it would be more relaxed.
    I have been here before and the restaurant is lovely however I would advise sticking to the normal menu.
